I just bought a Pedaltrain Classic Jr. pedalboard. I want to attach my recently-purchased Tech 21 Acoustic Fly Rig and my Boss AD-2 Acoustic Preamp to it. Since I have no previous experience with pedals and pedalboards, I thought I'd pick the brains of the experienced pedalboard guy/gals here.

Do I stick the fluffy, soft half of the velcro to the pedal or to the pedalboard?

I put the fluffy on the board and the hook on the pedal. If you want to occasionally use the pedals off the board on a hard floor its best to put the fluffy on the pedal.

If you want to always leave the Flyrig on the board then I would also use a couple of cable ties on it.

'Fluffy on the pedal' - I like this. I like the 'cable tie' idea as well. Thanks.

i wasn't aware of this.

fluffy on the floor and loop on the pedals.

if you buy a prebuilt board or a pedal case... they always have the fluffy side built into it. so almost all used pedals will have the loop side on them.

i did it the "wrong" way for years because i didn't want my pedals to stick to my carpet and because i thought it looked better. but then when i went shopping for a pedal board... i quickly realized I'd also have to buy a lot more velcro...

Interesting. Thanks.

hooked side on the pedal - the fluffy stuff on the board is easier to clean and less likely to catch fluff and other nasties when you are at dodgy rehearsal spaces or gigs

if you want to go all out, 3M dual lock on both the pedal and surface

https://www.amazon.co.uk/3M-SJ354B-...qid=1574670359&sprefix=3m+dual,aps,144&sr=8-5

the advantage is its really hard to move the pedals

the disadvantage is... its really hard to move the pedals

this is useful info

Either way.... but by far the most common usage is to put the hooks on the pedal... fluffy (loops) on the board.
If you buy/sell/trade many pedals this will become evident.

There is a side benefit to this as well. If you make frequent changes to your board your fingers will appreciate dragging across the "soft fluffy" rather than the "hard hooks" ;)

I stick the fluffy, soft side on the board...less likely to attract and hold hair and lint in the areas where no pedals are sitting. The toothy pieces are on the pedals themselves and usually fully hidden by (or directly attached to) the board.

Don't know how well you can see, but I don't use Velcro. I use green insulation copper "ground"wire to form a "bracket" to hold the pedal to the board, without using adhesive on pedal. I strip just enough insulation to form a "loop" to screw down, then solder that loop so it doesn't come loose. Very secure, but "impermanent".

I don't use velcro at all. I use zip ties. They stay right where you put 'em and don't break unless you cut them with a knife (except for that one time, but I always carry a few spares). Plus, if a drunk gets really rowdy at a gig, wanting to fight, or yelling for Mustang Sally or War Pigs, you can pin him down, grab his wrists together, and hog-tie him until the authorities arrive.

Any way you like. But, if you think you might use the pedals off the board on on a carpeted surface, you'll want the loop -- i.e. the soft side -- on the pedal so it doesn't stick to the carpet.

Just to be devil's advocate here, I would be inclined to put the soft part on the pedalboard for fear that the hook and loop could scratch my pedals up.

So both ways are fine, ha!
