Should be stamped on the bridge. No unsightly marks on the neck plate! ...oh wait

Lightweight, though! Idk what species it is, or if kiln drying changes it. FWIW (likely nothing), some questionable janka hardnesses:

https://www.wood-database.com/longleaf-pine/ 870 lbf
https://www.wood-database.com/basswood/ 410 lbf (all kinds of basswood bodies out there--never owned one, not sure how they age)

More likely it's ponderosa pine (460 lbf)... if they actually thought to use the same species as the pine the original esquire was made from (should be 1.5" thick plywood, though!!), you can pretend Leo made it out of a broken outhouse he found in a dumpster, and it might as well be something native to California!
Love the sound of pine guitars, but got a s#@tload of Teles already in alder and swamp ash. On the one basswood guitar that I got the screw holes loosened up and a luthier glued in some hardwood in those areas to fix it.

Of course they're blowing those out cheap, they forgot to put in the neck pickup.

If the bodies are routed for a neck pup, they could be easily turned into Telecasters. Woukd they be partcaster because you’ve added something?

Looks like they are routed for a neck pickup-

So it wouldn't be that hard to convert to a Tele.

Or, you could just buy a used Tele.

OP here. I ordered one. Not like I needed another guitar but I couldn’t resist the deal. I’ll give a report once it arrives.

hi all. Quick update - mine arrived, new in box, lightweight (6 pounds 14 oz) but I found the neck and radius difficult to play and additionally the pickup sounded pretty wimpy. It was kind of a “meh” experience for me. I returned it. YMMV

I have a blonde one I got used. Lucked out in that it had more of a medium chunky neck (not huge like most). Wimpy pickup? Compared to what? Not mine.
