Honestly, all the "who's the fastest gunslinger in the West" BS that guitar players subject each other to has driven me away from more jam sessions and music stores than I can count. It needs to stop.

I figured Jesus just played guitars built in Nazareth

I played a Yairi once. Excellent guitar. Close to as good as my d28.

He'd probably find a Sigma before he would a Martin

That sort of thing can be fun, but it can also be taken too far. I like blowing people away, moreso when there's another guitarist around, but it's not about ego. It's all in fun and hopefully gets everyone to bring their best. Afterward if they want to talk guitars or ask how I did that, that's always welcome.

Almost 2 years ago I bought a $100 sale either Rogue or Mitchell guitar from musician's Friend with electronics and a cutaway.

I had an actual real luthier lower the saddle and re-intonate and he told me the electronics on that sounded as good as some of the expensive stuff!

    * (He trained at one of the better luthier schools 25 years ago).

they used to have a great ad in GP in the 70's. I LUSTED after one and wanted to have not just one, but many of them! Alas, I was too lazy until I saw a guy play one on stage and it sounded so great, I was GREEN! Why did he get to have one when I was so much more deserving???????

oh wait, I think I may need to do some work on myself... I think that was all SEVEN!

i think the only gigs i've been to in my adult life where people give each other crap for their gear is prima donna stuff.

like a guy showing up to a bar gig with multiple 2k+ guitars and multiple pedalboards full of strymon or something who takes 30 minutes to soundcheck to play pretty run of the mill material to ten people. I mean you gotta laugh at that kind of cosplay stuff.

I looked at all sorts and settled on a Faith. My faithful Yamaha, 45 years old and counting is great, just too much intrinsic value to take on the road. Never played a real top end £5k + acoustic but I’d be surprised if I found it to be that good.

Nothing wrong with a Yari, they are fine guitars.
As a brand Alvarez is fine too. I had a cheap cedar toped dread for a long time as my only guitar. There were better sounding guitars but it was still a good instrument and played great. You play what you can afford.

I pulled my 1989 Alvarez Yairi D-28 copy out of its case on Sunday, where it had been for at least eight months. It was still in tune.

They really don't, in many cases. Fancy guitars are for us middle of the pack guys, to reward us for the practice we may or may not do, or to get the observer thinking we are OK and so we just try not to demolish this initial impression. Most guys that are better than me, play nice guitars because someone pays them to do it.

Equating the brand of an instrument with someone’s ability to play that instrument isn’t just wrong, it’s ignorant. The fact that it took place in a church just means those folks need to listen better.;)

To those who have been around the block and actually know guitars, high end Alvarez guitars have always been considered comparable to Martins

+1, especially the Yairis. I'm always keeping an eye out for a nice used Yairi, wonderful guitars.
