as sweaty-outdoor-gig season approaches, a quick tip, though I'm sure some of you already know: keep a travel-size thingie of baby powder in your gig bag, and when things get hot sprinkle a little on your fretting hand. Kind of like pool-cue chalk, keeps things nice and slippery. A gig saver in extreme conditions, and darn nice when it's only just hot. Keep it in a plastic bag, though, or it's baby powder everywhere.

Try it once (99 cents!) and see if you don't get converted.

I could never buy a product made out of powdered babies

    You, sir, are a MONSTER

Don't get me started on baby milk, either. People who drink dehydrated baby are pure evil

In Oz, there is a criminal syndicate stealing powdered baby milk and on-selling it to China. They must have a taste for it there.

It's also used to cut drugs.

Yep, been using it for decades. If you buy the little one it has an open-close top, no bag needed.. I recently converted to pure talcum power, no perfume etc. (my singer has allergy to perfume etc)

Does this make a mess? Chalk for climbing or lifting would probably work too but what a mess

Someone once tried to sell me an amp that was covered with Naugahyde. I was so offended I beat feet out of there. All I could think about was all those little naugas that they had to kill just for their hyde.

Its a sick world we live in.

I thought chalk was applied to a pool cue to make it LESS slippery.

Chalk is for grip, not smoothness. Baby Powder can make a bit of a mess. Gets in the grain of rosewood etc. But I change strings often and clean up the fretboard. I only use it if it's a sticky humid day, like outside, or old strings on their last gig.

Our bass player used it excessively but not me. Pre-gig hand treatment was Ben Gay.

    Asbestos.

Make sure whatever you are using, is entirely free from asbestos.

Asbestos is a funny thing. When in solid, stable form it really can't do any harm. But if it is "friable" and certain if it is in a powder media, it reaches maximum harmful potential. Check out some of the litigation that Johnson & Johnson and others are engaged in.

Particles of many kinds of asbestos are small enough to be suspended in the atmosphere around you, ready to be taken into your lungs with any breath. But the particle is extraordinarily durable when it gets lodged in lung tissue, and the lung's response is to try to encapsulate it with scar tissue. If you combine asbestos with tobacco smoke (possibly any kind of smoke) you're telling us you really don't care about your health or how careless you are about dying one of the most hideous forms of death there is.

At one time, baby formula was THE MOST shoplifted items in grocery stores. I, like many, thought it was used to "cut" drugs for distribution.....but, no, it was for babies. More specifically, drug user's babies. They would steal formula for their children, but use their "welfare" credits to buy drugs for themselves.
Like so many criminal activities, if the bad guys would simply focus their energy and effort toward lawful employment, they'd expend no additional work, and everyone would be happier.

Baby powder is deadly. I'll say no more, it'll probably infringe the 'P' word.

    No, not that 'P' word.
