Just sayin... (my opinion)

like them or not the sucess of PRS is staggering. Just check major retailers sites, Dave's front page etc..

And maybe that's not too bad after all

I think there are many people who would love to see PRS making Gibson guitars. Gibson's reputation for quality is rock-bottom. Maybe unjustified but that seems to be how it is. Who would want Gibson's debt? PRS? Maybe not.

How's this? Gibson goes broke completely, leaving just a name and designs. PRs buys that.

Not saying it will happen. But it could.

And people aren't going to be happy when they see the big price increases.

I find PRS guitars so visually repulsive that I have never picked one up. I also can't stand the music of most of their endorsees. I love guitars and all things guitar related but PRS designs just turn me off.

As far as Gibson goes, I'm sure is PRS did buy them out, the prices would go up exponentially.

In a way they could. I mean a one dollar evaluation would be overpriced. The problem is servicing Gibson's creditors. If the figures are to be believed Gibson's debt is approximately a half billion dollars spread over their acquisitions and I suspect this is not going to be paid off anytime soon. The guitar manufacturing arm of their business could be healthy for all I know but if it happened, any PRS involvement would be a licensing deal.

But...

Why?

I don't see ANY good reason for them wanting to do this, especially financially.

Csn you please explain your reasoning here?

Yup; Paul has always had a "Gibson" complex, he clearly chased that grail (McCarty, Singlecut, lawsuit, etc..)

IMHO he is a tremendous businessman who pushed an "impossible" business model , past two giants in an impossibly crowded market..(and I'm not even a PRS fan - eventhough I do play a mccarty)

Not seeing where he's at & what he has accomplished is not an option

He has what it takes. Deep down inside, his crown achievement will be Gibson itself, as the crown jewel division of PRS

My mom's basement.
I never liked PRS. Dentist guitars, and all that.
Then I played one.

I came to electrics late and have never been more than an amateur who at best used to do the Riley Tavern bluegrass jams. I did however know about intonation and precision. That helped PRS and Collings electrics stand out.

Without brand fan or all the biased history I discovered the PRS at the now gone Good 'N Loud Music and Collings electrics at Madison Music were built with super quality and care. Then add trips to Dave's. Except for bird inlays, I like the more subdued designs and colors.

What I do know about dentist guitars is the orthodontist my kid went to loves Taylors.

To me it seems like we're in an era where the Gibson brand would mean the most to someone, and not Mr. Smith wanting to run that company. To me it always seems like Mr. Smith's passion is about the stuff his company creates and not running a business that owns an iconic brand.

Full disclosure: I really kind of care less about Gibson. This is 5 years since I've bought a guitar or had any interest in that. The guy who runs Gibson seems like a jerk compared to other founder or founder families - PRS, Richard Hoover, Bill Collings RIP, or Chris Martin.

With Gibson recently selling the Memphis Gibson factory and hearing news Gibson will not be attending NAMM this year - I wouldn't be shocked if Henry Juszkiewicz had hopes to sell the brand.
