This might surprise you, but if not for the crazy price tag I would actually use that thing. Around here we go tubing where your spend the day just floating down the river on an innertube or raft of some sort. Having a sun shield like that wouldn't be all that bad of an idea. I sure wouldn't take a nap in one while on the river, but that applies to any water craft.

I used to use a potable water storage bladder from the miltary. It is just a heavy rubber bell shapped bladder with an inflatable rim on it, designed to hold potable water. The rubber is thick enough to take a lot of damage and is easily patched...floats well and can later be used for a swimming pool or hot tub as well.

I have seen much dumber products out there, but again, that price tag is crazy high.

    Love this.

Well, it's only $1499 so if you got the scratch, you're good to go. I wouldn't recommend throwing all the kids in there.

It looks a lot like those large life rafts they use at sea. I recently watched Robert Redford bob around in one for a few hours. He slept in it too and managed to survive, even after setting it on fire.

To be fair that was in a movie but Hollywood wouldn't just make stuff like that up.:)

I think I'd rather pay up for an actual life raft made for open ocean survival, but I'm sure some sailor out there will consider one of these tents to save some money. The calculus will start with a question like this: What are the chances I'll need it in a survival situation anyway? :)

I thought this was going to be a political thread. Anyway, I would totally buy that. I don't understand your problem with it. OBVIOUSLY, you don't take that down the Colorado River but what's wrong with floating about on a calm, small lake?

So, let me have your argument. What's illogical about using it on a calm, small lake? What is the problem with science? It's buoyant and meant to be used on water. Common sense? Oh, I see, it has a canopy and can't be used on water like other watercraft that have canopies. Price? Oh, I see. I should be paying $99.99. Uh... I think I'd rather pay a bit more than that as long as I'm getting quality. I really wouldn't want it to leak.

I think you're wrong on this one. :)

They are round though, harder to sleep in stretched out and a square picnic table would look odd in there and make it hard to move around when grabbing another beer.

I think the article brings up some pretty good arguments for why it's dangerous. I think your mistake is supposing you can find the perfect conditions for it. Any time you're in water things can wrong, horribly wrong. I don't think you can ever foresee all the risk variables involved. Just trying to get out of that thing when things do go wrong, should be enough to make you shy away from it, imo. Just my two cents.

I wouldn't wear a lazer helmet in that raft.
Actually I wouldn't want to be seen wearing one anywhere.

Sorry if I missed the irony. I've been exhausted lately.
