One of my all time favorites since he was playing out of his Mom's basement. The supporting cast is no slouch either, they got talent. That one girl got off some pretty impressive leads.

Watched it on hulu this morning. I was disappointed. I thought it was schlock-rock.
    I expect funky, jazzy, groovy.
Don't really need to see a posing side-person taking solos.
    Not his best.
Throwing the guitar on the floor leaves me cold.

I'm trying to figure out what ironic statement he is making this time. The music seems derivative. "I'm your driver. You're my ssskreuu (or however you spell the way he pronounced it)." There was something goofy about that line, but not intentionally funny. The all-girl band, complete with weird hair and over the top rock posing. The weird sunglasses.

It seemed to be almost a sardonic parody of something. The first one sounded like Lenny Kravitz, and if Lenny had done the same songs, I would say it's just Lenny doing his rock thing. With Prince, there seems to be a point that he's making.

The girl playing guitar for him used to teach at a store near me. She is endorsed by Traynor (makes sense as the store she used to teach at is the retail arm of Traynor's parent company) and, instead of playing her usual Dark Horse, she played the YBA reissue that Traynor announced at NAMM. Nobody is sure whether she played a production model or the prototype but either way, I thought the amp sounded great.

Lenny Kravitz immediately came to mind for me, too, but I don't think Kravitz is an exceptional talent like Prince. He's truly all form and little content. That said, the songs he played aren't particularly memorable -- competent craft rather than inspired.

Prince is being compared to Lenny Kravitz... I hope he's not listening.

I guess Prince is an acquired taste, he might have been more palatable if he was still using his unpronounceable name. What's up with that anyway, he couldn't get a drivers license with the unpronounceable name? Dude can play no question about that, just to me, meh.

You hope which one isn't listening?

Prince vbrings the whole enchilaada...ie: showmanship/dress and chops. You have to respect his art even if you don't like his music.. As for rehashed rock n roll??? what isn't?

Especially when you consider that the guitar was not his. He borrowed
it from Capt Kirk of the house band. Not cool.

That was fantastic. Love it when Prince brings the rock. That wasn't two new songs though. That second one was Bambi. He released that in 1979.

Yeah Buddy. Dat's some meaty R&R.

Perfect timing on the guitar toss.

Not the greatest songs...but a pretty dam polished and powerful presentation! Would much rather listen to this guy and girl band than that other guitar thrower...
