I see some vintage amps bringing crazy money on reverb lately, BF vibro champs going for over $2000 , BF DR $ 3600. BFPR $ 3500. I guess that’s cheap compared to 60’s fender guitars.

Well it’s not all of them. I agree that certain old Fenders have gotten stupid expensive. Champs, Princeton’s, Deluxe Reverbs are commanding pretty stiff prices. Bandmasters, Tremolux not so much. Back in the day I remember Champs and Princeton’s as student amps!

I would not pay high dollar for a vintage amp. A custom amp is the way to go if you have a little scratch. Check out Franklyn Amps. My rig is a Princeton 5F2-A, with a 6G15 Reverb Tank and a 15 inch extension speaker. 100% pine cabinets, EV speakers, etc.

Keep in mind, asking prices on Reverb is not the same as a selling price in real life.

Reverb is the scourge of the used instrument market. Really has been inflating all prices for the last few years.

"...this amps going for $5000 on Reverb, asking $4500 for a quick sale"

Ironic that the company that introduced mass production and interchangeable bolt on parts has become the favorite of vintage-loving cork sniffers.

Do yourself a favor and buy some "will be vintage someday" equipment.

what gets me is they'll be 10 of the relatively same amp/vintage/condition and there's always one guy who thinks his is worth literally ONE THOUSAND dollars more than all the rest, yet can't be bothered to pull the chassis.

Here is one that is ‘aggressively’ priced. In the lower right, Reverb.com gives the price range for such an amp....the top price in that range is half of the asking price for this BFVC.

    https://reverb.com/item/8582441-fen...-blackface-pre-cbs-feic-20th-vibro-champ-made

As noted, asking and getting can be very different things. That said, yes...the actual valances for these small amps is going up. Would I give even $785 for a BFVC? It would have to be dead mint for me to even consider it, and one does not see dead mint very often. Ommv....

As far as I'm aware, you can only see the asking price of sold listings, not the actual sale price, besides the 'Price Guides' which I've always found to be dubious.

Reverb prices are always insane. I never look to them, but to Ebay for prevailing prices, and I not only look at the asking price for current listings, but at sold listings to see what the item I'm looking at has actually recently sold for. Reverb shipping prices are also insane, and I never buy there unless it's something I have to have and can't find it anywhere else, and only if the shipping is reasonable. Shipping to Hawaii on Ebay is often excessive too, but I find that overall it's not as bad as Reverb, and on new gear MF and SW often offer free shipping, even though I can't get free shipping from them directly on the same item.

Even the big iron amps are going for higher prices these days. Not like a few years ago.

Sometimes, but not always, you can find a graph of recent asking and sale prices, but they do not include shipping cost.

Yea its not all. Fender re-issues have been stable for a while now. Some 80's tube amps are stable too.

Reverb..Grrr. The place where sharks gather. Try not to use them whenever I can. I love how they promote products i.e. (obscure artist name) selling their junk, trying to get inflated value for the most mundane pieces of gear.
