    Whenever someone calls me "Sir" I still tend to peek around to see this elderly, distinguished British gentleman who is so crudely butting in my business...

    Just DON’T use the pronoun and common noun in the same sentence as in -

    “My brother, he works at Ford’s !”

    +1 and "Mr. DH" is my grandfather.. passed on lo these many years.

    so, boris was complaining about "it's all good" but his post disamppefered because of contraband aboard.
    I think "no worries" is way worse

    I have no problem referring to myself as "we". It's in the royal sense.

    Off topic, but my Dad used to call one of my friends "Sam", even though his name was Gary. I guess Dad was a fan of Eddie Haskell.

    I sometimes follow Marty Stuart's example as in "Cousin Kenny", Cousin Buck" or Cousin you name them".

    My email signature says 'he/him' along with all the other academic stuff that identifies me under my name. I'll also write the same on one of the "Hello My Name Is" stickers if I'm wearing one at some meeting. It's standard practice in some fields, and I expect it to propagate. The simple courtesy of being called by others what you wish to be called (and what they wish to do for you, out of courtesy), like Mr. or Dr. or Captain or Colonel or Ms. or your birth name or your nickname or your asteroid penal colony inmate number or whatever works for you in your context.
