I remember when red power ties hit the scene. I also remember when a different color was declared the new power tie.

    And the answer is:

Club stripe, in the English direction not American, is the real power.

I remember when yellow ties with blue polka dots were considered something of a power look by magazines like GQ and Esquire in the mid-'80s.

    It's fabric and dye.

Any power it has is attributed by the person looking at it. That's why I tend to think it's all GQ mag marketing BS.

    Hee hee!

    Yellow...

My yellow “power tie” has pandas and eucalyptus motif on it.

I bought it at the Beijing Zoo...really.

Blue with white polka dots was considered a power tie here when I was younger.

THANK YOU FOR BRING THAT TO MY ATTENTION, I really really need to have that information in the circular file in my head.
I was paying attention to becoming some what clean and sober was about getting through the day while feeling like a piece of raw liver being pulled through a note hole, Einstürzende Neubauten - and baked tofu.

My favorite color tie is whatever matches up to my shirt. I have a few faves based on the shirt I put on.
But I will say, one silver lining to COVID is that I haven't worn a tie in almost a year, and I don't miss it.

Here in Oz the power tie was yellow with black or dark blue dots. All the TV network news readers wore 'em.

I have a few really nice ties but none of them are considered power ties. I did have a Christmas tie that had lights on a tree that lit up

Full disclosure, I haven’t worn a tie in almost 9 years and that was at my mom’s funeral

Ties are for parties, weddings and funerals. In which case Linux "Tux" Penguins on royal blue is a powerful choice.

I used to have an aquarium tie. It was clear plastic, filled with water, gravel and little floating goldfish.

My boss hated it...so I wore it regularly until it leaked.

My last job gave up on the tie as a dress-code standard 20 yrs ago...but I still have most of the ties.
