We were out for 77 minutes, night before last up there at The Cabin. Our first outage in 6 months. We imagined, with the new Substation, that our sketchy power supply days were over (also, with the end of the bitcoin stuff, less power demands in western NC).

This is when you want those guitar neck sections to be nice and thick - just in case it gets a bit cold indoors there!

It had been blinking off and on all morning. Seems like it's really out now been about 30min.
It's getting colder by the minute and the wind is not relenting. I would hate to be out there working, got to appreciate the folks out there working to restore power!
We'll come look for you come spring!

Sorry man!
Glad your wood stove is working.
We’ve been spared, so far this time.
I’ve got the fireplace goin’, though my $40 firewood expenditure yesterday is down to 4 logs.
Better get more, though it will “normal up” next week.
We’ll have highs in the 70’s!

We had our foot of snow, about ten days ago. It's still a bit treacherous, to walk around, outside. Minus fifteen temperatures depleted my wood stock a bit, so I was cutting more, today, before the outside store again disappears, under a white blanket.

I guess those of you, who live in northern climes, already have good winter tyres and perhaps 4x4 vehicles? It's easy to let your tools make you complacent- but I imagine the folks most at risk, are those who live in temperate spots, where bad storms are a rarity. Here, it's often young drivers, who can't afford extra tyres and rims, or lack experience, on icy tarmac.

As they say in Hill Street......be careful, out there. :)

Northern climes😂 After we moved from IA to VA we wondered when winter would really set in; maybe I'm an old man now, winter up in the Blue Ridge mountains is plenty for me.
We get more ice than snow here, so my strategy is to sit tight and wait it out🌬️

Our power has been out for 3 hours. We have a small generator that can run the microwave or teakettle, and keep the phone charged, but the heat is off and temp is dropping.

I live in W. central Wis and have never had snow tires. I drive Honda CRV with FWD. It's -3F degrees right now and about -20F windchill, quite unusual for this time of year

Ours was out from 10:00 PM last night to 2:00 PM today. I spent a very cold night under ever blanket I could find in the house. The dogs got in there with me. Luckily my wife is with the grandkids in Chicago. It wasn't because of the weather. Some idiot hit a power pole and took out everybody's electricity in about a 3 to 4 square mile area. Not a big outage, but of course, it included our house. We don't have a fireplace so no luck there. The house got pretty darn cold. I think it's time to look into new windows. The furnace has the house warm again and I took a really hot shower, but I still can't thaw out.

I'm praying things stay ON in Northern Virginia- so far, so good, COLD!

A new wrinkle in our lives ( about a month):

My wife ( already disabled with diabetes issues) has been diagnosed with COPD, and now needs oxygen 24/7, hence a home O2 concentrator' needing electricity.

But we have real tanks as backup if needed.

But, always something to worry about...

I watch GB News and always watch your weather reports with interest. -18C/-3F here right now at 7:25 PM Mountain Time. There'a Chinook wind coming in off the Pacific and it's warming up in the southwest corner of Alberta on the Montana border. Should be above freezing tomorrow and plus temps for the next few days or a week. It was -30C or so all week.
I have Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac All-Terrain Mud & Snow tires on my 2006 4X4 Toota Tundra all year round. In case the heat goes out, we have a Yamaha 2000 Watt generator on hand. Also have those little power paks and a folding solar panel to charge our iPads, laptop and iPhones. If necessary for cooking, we have a Coleman camp stove we could fire up outside.

Finally came back on after 6 hours. I am in awe of the folks at NYSEG, working in that cold. They are amazing!

The whole time mine was out, I was listening to the howling winds and looking out the window thinking that out there were some really tough people up in cherry picker buckets putting up new power lines so people can have heat and light again. In my area I salute all those workers at DTE. Truly some of the biggest unsung heroes of our time.
