I think vibrolux is referring to musical style more than location of where the artist is from. That’s how I would classify it as well if I had to. I love RL, Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin’, but I don’t consider them “Delta”.

Screw it let’s just play some music!

I moved to Houston in 1969 and saw Hopkins play many times, mostly at the University of Houston. He played anything from frat parties to coffee houses.
Earlier in the '60s he played 'rent parties' for a friend of mine. The pay was $25 and a bottle of musician's lubricant.
    He is a splendid entertainer.
Some of the scenes in the short film were only a few blocks from were I lived in Houston.

I agree with that, and is what I am saying. There were blues men in other southern states in the 20's to early 40's that were playing in the delta style. They were still playing the same style no matter what state they were in. So I don't see where the disagreement is, myself.

Yes Rustbucket it's a specific playing style and yes that was my point but I have realized my misunderstanding too. I had never known of a forward slash to mean "or" until a few minutes ago when I searched it. To me, it's always been nothing more than a date or word division and an often misused punctuation on the webs. So if I replace that forward slash with or in your OP Chicken it negates everything I've said. In effect, I read it as Delta Country Blues which to me is obviously very specific. So I humbly apologize for that misunderstanding and take full responsibility. There are grey areas in all of that music and I'm not going down that rabbit hole. Call it whatever you like and I won't try to inflict my opinions on you.

    recap:
Bedeyha: This guy should get a mention, seeing how Mississippi was not specified.
Me: Actually the "Delta" in Delta Blues is a direct reference to Mississippi. Mississippi Delta Blues.
    It should have ended there.

Does this count? I know he’s not an original old time Mississippi blues man but he was from the south and could play the blues.

Oh, I don't know if electric stuff with a full band counts. What have you done?

It counts, I'm just going to say it counts now to get that out of the way. Hahaha.

Here’s something I think you might find a bit more appropriate.

Frankie Lee Simms will mix it all up Texas style and you won't know what to call it.

Even though this on an electric it's a single guitar so I'm allowing this.

This is certainly one of the most delta, funky, dirty, & mean minutes on the guitar I've heard. Especially that first 10 seconds. It sounds just as mean on an acoustic too, because how can resist playin it when you hear it. Ry Cooder is playing, and even though Ry Cooder is probably not on a tele, it is a tele in the video and it looks so cool. I have tried to find if there is more to this song but have never found nothing, yet.
