Some relentless basstardy going on here:
Pop Popswell playing bass on Les Dudek's "Zorro Rides Again."
Stanley Clark "Silly Putty."
.......and pretty much anything Stew Hamm played!
Long live stoner/doom.
Nobody mentioned this one yet:
Mark King/Level 42
3rd page and no Jack Bruce yet?
Everything about this tune is great, but Mike Mesaros' bass riff drives it...
Just the riffs, ma'am.
I mentioned Stew Hamm 2 posts above yours.
Hmmmmm Bass riff huh? Maybe not badazz tho. Well the first has a really cool bass riff and solo in it. Let Haley keep you entertained between solos.
The next one has a little spice to it from the Swamp Shakers
King Crimson - Starless; 4min 22 sec in John Wetton hits you with this heavy, grinding, tritone-based 13/4 riff.
(One of the joys of which is that for all the complexity of the rhythm and the spikiness of the melody, in a fine illustration of balancing simplicity and complexity it’s a minor-key 12-bar blues: i i i i iv iv i i v v v v. Yes the first 8 bars are 13/4 and the last 4 are 8/4, but there you go! And of course Fripp’s simple tension-building solo over the top... but it’s Wetton’s bass riff that defines it all.)
Lennon is really giving that Fender VI a hard time!
Some may say sloppy, others may say rock!
