I like the pickguard cutoutDefinitely unique. Looks like a mongrel assembled by an employee from various parts. Probably not an official 'prototype', because mongrels like this are a common thing at guitar factories.
This guitar here is the coolest thinline...in my guitar pile. It's a homebrew known as the Thinline III:

Absolutely a mongrel assembly. If you take a look at the other photos in the post, you can see where the tele bridge plate has not only been cut in half but has, what looks like surgical tubing raising it up to get the pickup in the correct position under the strings. Also, it must have a massage wedge in the heel to adjust the neck angle for the higher Mustang bridge.Definitely unique. Looks like a mongrel assembled by an employee from various parts. Probably not an official 'prototype', because mongrels like this are a common thing at guitar factories.

Is it me or does it look like the fretboard is sprayed? Looks super glossy and I dig it.This popped up on my instagram feed today from Davidson’s Well Strung Guitars (@wellstrungguitars) • Instagram photos and videos (more photos in the link)
Apparently, it's a 1966 prototype from Fender's experimental era.

Love the look of the Jazzmaster headstock with Mustang Vibrato on a thinline Tele. I particularly like the shape of the F-holes, I think I prefer these to the standard ones.
IMO, this is one hell of a cool Guitar. It's so unusual that I thought I would post here for others to appreciate it![]()
It certainly was a wildwood finish. Somewhere I have a Japanese book that shows this (and many others) that emerged from the Factory at this time.Very interesting! Looks like one of those wildwood finishes as used on the Coronados a couple of years later.
Which neck pickup is that? It looks like a Gold Foil.Interesting.. but MINE is the coolest ever... Thinline with Bigsby, Blue Ice Metallic, Rexter Guitars.
