So what did you decide AlbertaGriff?

This thread inspired me to get my LP out today, probably the first time this year. It's a beautiful instrument to play and look at, but I still prefer the sounds of single coils. Nevertheless I decided it'll stay - if I want a 50s RI of some sort it won't be at the cost of the LP.

Yep, if the LP checks out. Good trade.

We haven't yet met to check the instruments out. I didn't mention, but the LP has some damage to the lacquer on the bottok edge of the guitar, not visible on the front. My Tele is in pretty good condition, just minor edge dings.

We may meet next week to check it all out. The Tele has a bit of sentimental value to me, but not a ton.

We'll see what happens, but I will say I'm surprised at the support of the trade on this (Tele) forum.

A good LP is a thing of beauty. But I suspect you’re getting support for the trade because you have two Teles and no LP. I doubt the support here would be as strong if you were thinking of trading your only Tele.

Yeah, good point. And I really only have so much time to play, that this one doesn't get the love it should.

It's a good trade. It's either a win-win or slight advantage to you.

Always good to have some diversity in your guitar collection. Some tunes need a Les Paul, some a Fender.

Sorry; forgot to come back to this thread. Yes, this would be a reasonably comparable trade; the 2016 Traditional T model should be an easy enough sale should you do the trade and find after a few months you don't care for the LP. Let us know what you do after you meet and try out the LP.

Thanks, I had thought that too but my one concern was the damage shown in the picture above. What do you think of it?

I have a 2017 LP Traditional and I love it. Completely different feel and sound from my Fenders, but that's part of what I love about it.

Even if you find you dont like the Les Paul, someone will be willing to buy or trade for it. Even with the finish damage.

You should take a close look at it and see if it looks like it's going to peel off more. I've not been playing Gibsons lately, but I do recall messing around with some 70s/80s/90s ones that had similar large spots of finish wear on them and most of them were stable, but there was one LP Custom where it seemed like it was peeling - that one had really bad belt buckle rash on the back.

Gibson's current "nitro" finish should be okay - it's a different formulation than what Fender uses - and you should be able to do things to stabilize the damaged spot. But if it were me I would really have to like the LP to do the trade straight up even if I thought the wear spot wasn't going to continue to peel off.

Well I ended up finding a different 2016 LP Traditional up for trade which had no damage. Went to check it out today, and it was a no-brainer for me. Pics below, very happy so far. Nice to have some humbuckers.

Nice one! Is that a tobacco burst or did they call it something else in 2016 (desert burst maybe)? Much better deal than the one with the finish damage on the body.
