The Hollies were a fantastic singles band - one of the best. But when you dig into their albums, there's a LOT of filler. Tons of tepid covers and the majority of the originals Clarke, Hicks & Nash jointly wrote under the pseudonym L. Ransford were not up to snuff.
In the pantheon of great 60s British bands, they don't match up to the Beatles, Stones, Kinks & Who imo.
Yeah, but. I would say that “Butterfly” and “Evolution” and the “Dear Eloise/ Ming Midas” collection belong in any collection of great 60s British albums. The Hollies were a fantastic singles band - one of the best.
