Despite being a teenager in the 70s I have never listened to Dark side of the moon. My life is also a Dire Straits free zone.

Bit of a coincidence as I have no Allman Brothers but a couple of nights ago I was listening to their version of Stormy Monday and thought I should invest in one of their albums (I still buy cds)

I don't have a "playlist", because I don't use Spotify, I-Tunes, Pandora, or whatever the flavor of the week is this week. I listen to these antique things called Compact Discs. And there are dozens, if not hundreds, of popular bands/musicians/singers who I have no interest in buying any of their CDs.
I do occasionally watch live performances on YouTube.

Prog rock holds little attraction for me.

I remember when they first came out and how expensive they were. Back then we used to talk about these things called albums. I don't think we referred to CDs or cassettes or 8-Tracks as the flavor of the week compared to them.

I still have a lot of CDs lined up in my "studio" closet and in carrying cases.

A few advantages to using the a service like Spotify is you don't have to carry around all those cases, although you have to pay a small monthly fee for the service you don't have to replace a lost or damaged or stolen hardcopy, you can have your entire music library right there on your phone wherever you go, you can explore artists' music catalogs without having to search for them on CD where you would usually look like thrift stores, you can curate your playlist so you don't have to listen to eight sucky songs on a CD to get to that one hit wonder, at the bottom of your playlist is another list that are suggestions of other artists chosen based on your playlist choices. I've discovered quite a few artists like Black Mountain and Silversun Pickups from those suggestion lists.

I like bands like Yes and Genesis. I have the entire Yes catalog.

I am seriously stunned by this post, lol. This one is probably my favorite recording of all time. Have you never been curious about what it might sound like? Imho, the engineering on this is spectacular. Do you have a good set of headphones? Have you ever eaten a steak?

    Please forgive my “butting in”.
I never listened to Floyd because what little I heard was “boring stoner music”.
It did not pique my interest at all.
I was 21 in 1978, and going to UT when I first heard Dire Straits.
I heard Sultans on my truck radio, and not hearing who it was, I thought, “Wow, Dylan hired a great guitar player!”
I did like, and “get” DS right away.
    Thanks for listening.

Rather than just naming "popular" artists, I'll just think of artists that I really like, (have 10+ songs that I like) but don't have any of their music on CD, LP, cassette, DVD, Blu-Ray, or MiniDisc:

    • Bob Seger
    • Johnny Winter
    • Chicago
    • Joe Cocker
    • (Peter Green's) Fleetwood Mac
    • Santana
    • Blodwyn Pig
    • Kings of Leon
    • Doobie Brothers
    • Mahogany Rush

Compared to current top lists, I don't have any music by Somebody ft. Somebody Else.

I have never really been able to capture my sentiment towards them this punctually.
    Thanks for helping me out.

I don't stream music but if I would, I'd stick to my golden rule regarding my hard copies and music on my hard drive.

Nothing from The Rolling Stones or U2!

I do consider Biwieto be a great, and extremely adaptable and versatile artist.
I never dug his dramatic, theatric, glam-ey presentation.
There are lots of artists the world loves that I don’t.
Dylan, Cohen, Floyd, leap to my mind.
Bowie is in that club, for me.
I get why people love em’, but I don’t.

I don't own any music by the Beatles, despite liking many of their songs.
