I used to use Murray's. However, it's Chrome Dome Polish these days.

Might not be the correct application, I’m not sure:

So I just took a chance on this

They advertise high hold AND high shine. Reviews seem favorable, and it wasn't much more than Murray's.

    We shall see

It really depends how much hold you need. Heavier pomades are going to give less shine. Lighter pomades offer more shine, but less hold. The Murray's for hold; Royal Crown for shine is a good rule. I use both, but alternate days. I also have some mediums that I use sometimes.

A couple of my favorites I reviewed:

I've reviewed several others too. I'm kind of an aficionado of hair grease. Because obsession has weird connotations...

It's got nothing to do with hats. I can't stand putting my hand in it. If I have to look for something to wipe my hand on every time I scratch my noggin, that's too much effort.

I don't wear cuffs, 2-tone saddle oxfords, or pants pulled up to my nipples either.

Is that RC Pomade different from the RC "Hair Dressing"?

In appearances, color and consistency, it seems maybe the same

Suavecito! If you really need hold, get the firm hold version. It’s plant based too so you can get the stuff out of your hair with just shampoo. High shine

You can get it on Amazon or a local Sally’s Beauty Supply or similar place that sells salon/barber supplies.

It looks the same...has the same ingredients. But it smells MUCH better and has a slightly better hold. It's one of the best-smelling pomades out there.

Interesting. I may have to check it.
I was just watching your Murray's Superior Vintage Forumula review, and that's interesting also.
I'd recently tried the new Murray's 50/50 that you'd mentioned during that review, but there's just not enough hold there for me

I've never used much in the way of hair products.

Beer was a favourite for a while (mid 70s) but that really doesn't keep your hair in place very well, just makes it sticky really, and makes you smell of...beer...

Worked for me though, and this bloke:

These days it's a quick buff & polish...

This thread is making me want to chop off my metalhead mop and go back to a clean cut that I can grease up.

I don’t know exactly what it was but my mom and sister used the heck out of Dippity-Do when I was a kid. I haven’t though about that for many many years.
