I kind of messed up a duplicolor metalcast finish and have decided to go with it as a faded relic look rather than have to start over and try again. I applied a waterslide decal and am undecided on if I want to leave it on before clear coating the body. I like it and as well as being unique, within the period look i'm going for it will also be a great way of identifying the guitar if stolen etc. Although I like it I am undecided on whether I want to commit to it and clear over it.
What do you think? Leave it on or take it off?

I dunno. I'm not usually a fan of stickers on guitars, but in this case it isn't bad at all. It's your own build, it isn't rude, it isn't insensitive, discriminatory or pornographic, it DOES show that you have a good idea of what the guitar is being used for. It isn't big and ostentatious. In this case it's part of the design and under the clear coat. I'd say keep it. Just my $0.05...

I don't usually like decals either but thought this one kind of suited the look.
If I do stick with it and clear over I will probably do the same to a purple metalic custom i'm working on as I have a second decal the same that would probably go ok with the purple 63 tele.

It's vintagey and cool and it's on the back. I voted keep it. Not one who is fond of stickers on the front of guitars though.

It wasn't from a guitar decal seller. I purchased the two for $9 bucks from a guy that restores vintage amusement machines and they are reproductions of license stickers they used on those machines back in the day.

Before I saw the pic, I read where you said, "I like it"....so I kinda knew how to vote, anyway.....I usually don't like extra stickers on guitars either, but that is COOL! Since it's on the back, no one will see it but you, anyway....but I'd almost put it on the FRONT. I say KEEP IT!

Thanks, I thought i'd give it a try seeing as I had already messed up the finish leaving it faded and patchy looking after trying to level sand it. I think I will go with it for something different. I might live with it on there for a week before clearing just to be sure.

If you ever sand duplicolor metalcast or candy paint make sure it's on a dead level, perfectly prepped body. :)

I thought I could lighten some heavy colored areas and remove orange peel by sanding which works but it also leaves grain or low spots darker and high spots lighter. It should come up ok after clearing over it but will look faded out and still patchy.

I think that’s the best decal I’ve ever seen on a guitar, so I voted to keep it. I wish I could also vote for turtles, though. I do like them.

I think any decal on the back is fine, 'cause who ever sees it? On the front can be dicey; some look good, some not so much.
