I'd be fine with never hearing either again but Stairway edges out Highway for me because it's more interesting to listen to. I always wished the intro was a little shorter though. Nothing wrong with Highway but as mentioned I'd had my fill of both decades ago.

Stairway is one of those songs I never need to hear again. Right there with Hotel California. Highway to Hell can still come on the radio and I won't change the dial.

Well It has to be Stairway to heaven - it has the best solo ever recorded on a Fender Telecaster ('59)!

I can not explain better why I like it than how Jimmy himself said:
"The idea of Stairway to Heaven was to have a piece of music which would just keep on unfolding into more layers and moods. […] The overlay of the composition would accelerate as it went through, on every level – every emotional level and every musical level. And so it just keeping opening up as it continues through its passage."

That's karmic that they had to hear each other, but a real tragedy for everyone else.

Stairway no question, it's just prettier and I'm not a massive AC/DC fan. But there are other songs by both artists I would rather listen to.

With more than a dozen good LZ tunes, did you have to pick one of the bad/boring?

I picked " do I have to choose?"

As I really love both, Stairway has its own monumental legacy as the huge epic rock song.

And I think " Highway to Hell" is just about a perfectly crafted '4/4 R&R' song- Bon Scott ( Scot?) had just the most perfect voice for AC/DC and that song!
It is just spine-tingly good! Just the playing and sound of each instrument and Bon. Flawless and fun, IMO

I'd rather hear someone else cover Highway to Hell, than to hear anyone butcher Stairway (as virtually all except LZ do, and including Pagey sometimes).

If Stairway isn't "immaculate" I'm a very unhappy camper.

Every high school dance ended with Stairway to Heaven. So I got to slow dance with ... anybody left over on the girls' side of the high school cafeteria.

Stairway to heaven is a pretentious song with really dumb lyrics. I just can’t stand hearing it. Highway to hell is dumb but fun

    that’s my take anyway

Highway to Hell is a bit simple and is really boring.

For me it was a simple choice because I always rank songs by 1). Quality of the writing and arrangement. 2). Quality of the guitarist(s) parts. 3). Everything else. I'm mainly a writer and a guitarist. While I sing and can play keyboards, bass and drums I only have enough skill level on those instruments to work out the song parts for what I'm writing. I would probably never play keys, bass or drums on stage unless there was no other choice, (someone was sick or just didn't show up for a gig). So ..... I think the overall arrangement of the multiple song parts of Stairway To Heaven is vastly more involved and laid out beautifully. Highway To Hell to a great song but is very basic within it's format. I would also note that Stairway To Heaven features multiple guitar types and styles including 12 and 6 string clean rhythms and arpeggios as well as higher gain rhythms and lead work. All performed by one guitarist. Highway To Hell is much more limited to a Hard Rock / Vintage Metal style of playing that, while performed quite well, requires a smaller palette of skills than those required by Stairway To Heaven. Plus .... there are two guitarists related by blood working hand and fist together to create the guitar work involved in Highway To Hell. Angus and Malcolm certainly have great hard rock chops but Jimmy Page has a level of talent and skill on the guitar that neither of the Young brothers have ever come close to achieving.

I imagined the chorus of "Highway to Hell" then my mind slipped into "Dance to the Music". So I vote "Dance to the Music". Zappa's version of Stairway is pretty entertaining.

I have to say I'd normally go with Stairway, but today I feel more like Highway to Hell, so that's what I voted for.
