Overplayed or not, Stairway is a brilliant song. Just like Hotel California. I don't care if I never hear it again, but Highway to Hell doesn't hold a candle to it.

Actually, I don't like either song that much. I was just comparing the titles, and I thought, would you rather take the Stairway to Heaven or the Highway to Hell. You have to walk up the stairway, but you can drive down the highway.

Stairway doesn't have the syncopated groove that made Highway to Hell legendary. That's what people forget about AC/DC, they could groove with the best of them. Highway to Hell uses the basic structure of every western song ever, and Stairway "breaks the rules" with the slowly increasing burn the whole time which makes it legendary. Both recordings have some of the best sounds ever created.

They're both brilliant, but to whomever said Hotel California is in the same tier is dead wrong. The Eagles suck, they never deserved Walsh.

Totally agree with MementoMori. Stairway and Hotel California are overplayed because they’re great songs.
