My uncle (concert pianist and retired chair of Piano Dept. at Penn State) and his wife (who also teaches voice and piano from home) have three or four grands scattered throughout their house.
The lady I began piano lessons with at age three.....around 1954-55, had pianos ALL OVER HER HOUSE. Not sure SHE even knew how many. She even had a small pipe organ built into a wall in her living room.
    So...."needing" one piano isn't always a given. ;)

I voted no because It doesn't matter to her. She doesn't care how many I have as its a non-issue. In the same way I don't care how many sewing machines or shoes she has.

She would probably make a guess within 5 of the actual number.

She can name every single one of mine by model and make. However, can she do that with her own plethora of guitars and electric basses? That there is the real pertinent question.:lol: I once traded one of my guitar amps for one of her basses. Yup, and a major part of our vacation travels are ... yup, guitar stores.

My wife has bought me several guitars, and is ALWAYS happy for me when I get one. She keeps a wish list for me, too, for guitars/banjos/resonators, etc. She doesn't know or care how many guitars I have; we always talk about purchases of that size before the fact and there is complete trust between us. That said, once I started teching, I consistently have 3-5 guitars a week coming into or out of the house, and she has said, "I would never know if you bought another guitar because there are so many different ones here all the time."

My gf will eventually know the full details because I made a database for her for when I croak -- a full list of gear, with production information and value, so she doesn't get bamboozled if she tries to sell the stuff.

In the early years, Mrs. German thought having a pile of guitars (and mandolin and banjo) was an odd but endearing habit. She knows they go as often as they arrive (my count is lower than it was then), and she has bought me one. She even suggested I buy myself “a nice one” for my 60th next year. As long as she doesn’t trip over them, she’s OK.

Probably. I only have three, so no big deal.

    Could she name them? Maybe.

If I showed them to her, with the name on the headstock covered, could she identify them? Maybe, maybe not.

My wife knows.. we're pretty much on the same page.

I only have 2 guitars.. buying a 3rd/4th/whatever or replacing one of the 2 I have would be an involved process for me.

I am way more in the vein of I'd rather have fewer guitars that fit me like a glove than more of them that aren't perfect.

The big bulk of my guitar spending is on lessons.

The only thing we have going on that's absolutely hilarious is my wife always says she doesn't like my electric guitar and likes acoustic more. But she listens to pop/bro country all day long. I don't like much of what she listens too but if I'm in her car I put up with it but I'll call out chicken picking or solos that are obviously being played on a Tele on songs she likes, which is almost all of them.

She knows about as well as I do (I'm not sure anymore...)
She has given names to some of them, and one of the guitars in the house is a gift I gave her.
That being said, we live in a fairly small place, and they wont quite all fit under the bed...

    That's nothing, Jerry.

The O.P. knows of a woman I am married to, and I don't even know who this might be.

Man, I sure hope there aren't too many of these.

She knows how many she has and knows I have quite a few more than she.
