It's like seasoning food. Some seasonings work well within their limits and some don't. Chorus is like that. It fits in certain places in smaller amounts and not at all in others.

I dislike chorus for the same reason I dislike spandex pants. They were cool when I got them in the 80s, but we overdid it. Now they're just hackneyed and ill-fitting.

As hard as I try I just can’t warm up to chorus. It just sounds out of tune to me.
Sometime in the late 60s I was talking with a soundman who said he had created a chorusing effect by running two tape machines and slowing one of the take up reels with his fingers

Chorus is like most effects;

Great when used rarely, and only for certain songs or portions of songs.

It is NOT an always-on sort of effect.
Unless you just dropped acid.
Then go ahead and leave it on.
:(
I’ve used it as an aways on effect. Chorus is great. I had a whole band where i never turned the chorus pedal off.

Chorus is a tool and effective if used sparingly. Just my 2 cents. Over use is distasteful on any effect.

Couldn’t agree more.

A touch of chorus adds depth and swirl. Very nice effect IMO.

More than a touch sounds cheesy and out of tune to me. Sorry Mike Stern. You’re an amazing musician, but your tone is gawd awful.

Also who is that?
That was a German rock/jazz fusion band from the late 1960's and into the 1970's.
They were from Munich.

They were called Out Of Focus.

:)
not entirely on topic but 33 1/3 just published a pretty cool book about neu Deutsche welle.

It's great for others, but not for me. Like, I love Nirvana, but I have never once thought, man I want that sound for myself.

Personally I prefer Tremolos, Vibratos, Phase Shifters, and Flangers by far. The closest I get is the "Chorus" setting on my photocell Eclipse Vibe pedal, and some settings on my Lovetone Flange With No Name clone.

Isn’t that just a flanger?

And that's why I come here. Parallel stereo FX chains. I hope it rains this weekend.

Plus some rack gear in there (not pictured). The Mark V and 5150 make stereo pair #1, a Seymour Duncan Power Stage 100 makes stereo pair #2. Tri-Parallel Mixer #1 selects between the Mark V, 5150, or Natas pedal as the active preamp. All power amps always active. 2×2×12 speakers, one speaker per output channel. TPMixer output becomes the master FX send, on to a rack 10-band parametric EQ, BBE Sonic Stomp Pro, then a splitter/switch box on top of the Canvas power supply.
Tri-Parallel Mixer #2 blends phaser/flanger/dry before the DC-2w makes it into stereo pair #2, on to Nemesis delay, Ventris reverb, and SL-2 Slicer.
Ice Box begins stereo pair #1, onto Sloer reverb and Super Pulsar tremolo (in a Saturnworks stereo dry blend)

I had a 1 knobs chorus effect in my Crate amp back in the 80's-90's. I always had it on 1 or 2 for just a low level of it. It added a bit of shimmer to the reverb that I like. Didn't use a lot of it. I liked the Flanger better.
