I toured in a band from the time I was 16-28. Our bass player was beginning at tattooing back then. We would have 600 miles to go in a van and to pass time he would practice on us. Or in different places in the country I would get one. Once I grown, I had some of the more homemade ones fixed. I like tattoos but now 16 year old girls have them. Everybody has them. Used to only sailors, inmates, bikers and rock n rollers had them.

I have the same kind, only I did it to myself accidentally. 27 years later it's faint, but you can still see it. It's a reminder of a cute redhead I dated briefly- I was so suave and debonair that after she wrote her number down and handed the pad and pencil back to me, I immediately stabbed myself in the hand with it. I can picture her face, but I don't remember her name.

Interesting thing about the 'immunity theory'. I recently read an article that indicates that tattoos can provide better protection against infection due to the stimulated immune response mentioned above.

I guess this needs more study...

Here are two of my three tats, all acquired after the age of 65, simply because I wanted 'em.

One night at a restaurant some guy at an adjacent table told his wife what he thought of people getting tattooed with the intention of my 'overhearing' it.

So I said to my wife in the same type of voice "Y'know, I served 22 years in the military. I've got over 5000 combat flying hours, nine Air Medals, Two Meritorious Service Medals, and an Air Force Commendation Medal. I think I've earned the right to get all the tats I want, at this point."

He didn't look my way the rest of the time he and his wife were there. I'll bet he could feel me looking at him, though.

My tats weren't very expensive, but I don't plan on getting any more. In a few years they're just gonna go in the incinerator, anyway.

I wrote a song, "Next Time i Want A Girl With No Tattoo" It got as far as Randy Travises's home. The guitar player emailed to get the guitar chords, but they passed on it. Crap!

I'd get one. Blood type, allergies to certain medicines. But that's it.

Don't have one. My old father has one on his arm from Merchant Navy days (1940's). Nothing against them per se, but some people will regret having some questionable artwork in years to come.

Why don't I have any tattoos? For the same reason you don't put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari. haha (ok, more like a beat up 55 Chevy pickup nowadays but...)

But seriously, i almost got one once but the place was closed. I'm glad I didn't. The only one I would get would just be "Mom". She's forever cool.

I don't have any tattoos and don't really have a desire to get one. I don't think I'd suite it, I'm very thin, pale and have the face of a 16 year old with a mop of hair. I'm impartial to them, my girlfriend has one on her right shoulder but as I said I'm impartial... unless they're "seriously covered in ink".

I have a few that I had done 25-30 years ago, and don't regret a single thing about 'em.. I would get more work done if it hadn't got so expensive. Back when I had mine done you could go to Bob Roberts, or some other top artist, and have them do a killer piece of work for $50, and now something like that would cost at least $500-$700.
I have another drawn up and as soon as I get a spare grand to spend I'll get it done.

The last few years I've been working on a big back piece that I have hopes of being able to finish within the next few months, and I'm starting to kick around ideas for a sleeve. Tattoos are awesome and I think everybody should have them.
