ARITS is my favorite Poitier movie; never saw the re-issue, but might check it out one day.

Starting with A Raisin in the Sun at 2pm Eastern 5pm Pacific, 2pm here, followed by The Slender Thread, A Patch of Blue (one of my personal favorites), Lilies in the Field, All the Young Men, and more.
I don't think I've EVER not liked a Sidney Poitier film.....even the "throwaways" like Sneakers and Shoot To Kill.....but In The Heat of the Night is probably my favorite.....but really, don't make me choose. ;)

I haven't seen that one in a long, long time. I wish TCM would show it.
I saw it at the theater when it first came out. I took Denise Gates on a date, she was a year older than me and my Mom dropped us off. Saw it three times at the theater. Love that movie.

Tuesday is Poitier night all this month. Next Tuesday is To Sir With Love at 2pm Eastern, followed by Guess Whos Coming to Dinner, and In the Heat of the Night.

No Way Out’s a personal favourite of mine. Such a cool cast, with the great Richard Widmark playing such a nasty racist. Ironically, both he & Poitier became lifelong friends during this movie. Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee, also star in the movie...their blues guitarist/actor son, Guy Davis, was an inevitable result of the marriage.

Thanks for the heads up. I love Sidney movies.

I hope they show the one with Tony Curtis where they are runaway convicts. For some reason I forget the title (shame on me) but that's a great one.

In the Heat of the Night is my fav by a long way, though. Such a great movie. Of course Sidney is great, but I especially like Rod Steiger's performance in that movie. So good. And then you get the tasteful direction and the Quincy Jones-curated soundtrack? Yes, please!

The scene in the diner where the creepy guy plays that novelty on the jukebox before tormenting the young deputy by hiding the pie is my favourite. Fowl Owl on the Prowl I think the song is called. It's really, really great.

Rod got his 3rd Oscar for his performance in that, the first two being Best Supporting Actor for On the Waterfront, and Best Actor for The Pawnbroker. And then Best Actor for In the Heat of the Night.

Steiger was such a great actor. His range was astounding, so many different characters that all came across as so different yet believable. He doesn't get enough love IMO.
