The Cramps were an American rock band formed in 1976 and active until 2006. The band split after the death of lead singer Lux Interior in 2009. Their line-up rotated frequently during their existence, with the husband-and-wife duo of Interior and lead guitarist and occasional bass guitarist Poison Ivy comprising the only ever-present members. The addition of guitarist Bryan Gregory and drummer Pam Balam resulted in the first complete lineup in April 1976.
Today, honors a woman who conquered the male dominated rock n’ roll world with her air of fearless originality. Her unique sense of style—both within her on-stage outfit choices, and her inimitable guitar playing—has made her a larger-than-life fashion, music, and cultural icon. Poison Ivy Rorschach, the red headed, latex clad, Gretsch … touting gunslinger from out of a modulated creation of striking and unusual guitar approaches. Her use of vibrato, reverb and some of the angriest fuzz tones that I have ever heard.
Poison Ivy and Lux created a dimension which feed on the good-taste of America asperations.
Juvenile delinquent driven American trash culture monster B movies, porno-excentric-erotic lyrics ,suggestive and naughty and nice while bringing a load of humour érotique that you can dance too. Bad Music for Bad People really shows what she has to offer early in the band career.
I like the way she comes up wit guitar parts that fit the songs, that I have never thought of while playing basic chord progressions. She brings to the mix a guitar sound that compliments Lux's narrative.
I think of them as the Goffin and King of Psycho Billy writers.

I've been a Cramps fan for a loooong time. Ivy is a very private person. No interviews at all any more. I have always wanted to see her Lewis guitars. One was broken in France I think so she bought another. She has a bunch of cool guitars. She played into her 50s and was still looking great and ripping that 6120. She hangs out in Glendale, Ca.

She as it is said " IS THE BOMB " I am happy and pleased to hear that she is still playing and keeping on playing she has a lot to share with her playing alone, for me her playin' speaks volumes. (no pun intended)
Thanks for the good news.

I'm a fan. I've been waving the psychobilly freak-flag for some years and you can hardly do that and not like the Cramps!

She had her own sound and that's about the highest praise I give anyone. Plus, if you haven't noticed, she's a hot redhead! Visually stunning with the orange Gretsch and I'm allowed to look at redheads. Lol

Also a long time Cramps fan, first saw the supporting the Police, believe it or not, strange combination!
Ivyay not be the most technical of players but boy, what she does she does well and makes that Gretsch come to life. I last saw the Cramps just before Lux Interior passed away and she was as good as ever, as where the band.

Back in 2003 Ivy did an interview with Guitar Player magazine where she listed 13 songs with riffs that were influential to her. Some wise person compiled the songs and posted them on Youtube.

“Rock ’n’ roll has absolutely nothing to do with music. It’s much more than music. Rock ’n’ roll is who you are. You can’t call the Cramps music. It’s noise, rockin’ noise.” Lux Interior
