Never heard of Pliny the Elder ale but used to collect Thomas Hardy Ale and would buy a six or four pack every year to stash away.

I have never tried that, but have heard a lot of people talk about it before. Few things live up to the hype. I'm pretty picky about beer, probably from living here in Denver so long. That said, if I'm going to imbibe, it's usually gonna be something like this:

    I'm a scotch girl.

I'll still give that Pliny a try if I do come across it at some point, thanks for the tip!

It is often more about "The thrill of the chase" than the end product.

My best old friend is a certified beer judge...and he knows what I like. When I asked he said, "you'll like Russian River Porter, don't waste your money on Pliny, you won't like it." If I ever see one, I'll try it...but I know the outcome.

We went years looking for a bottle of Trappist Westvleteren 12...often voted "the best". I finally got some. It is really good...but not my #1.

We really liked Hamilton. The Pliny thing was talked about soooo much (especially by Tom Tolbert on KNBR) that I don't know what I was expecting... We get so many good and great beers (my son loves IPAs and his favorite is General Sherman from Tioga Sequoia brewery, I like the firefall from them) that I thought it would really be something...

Hamilton is really good. I don't think it will translate to video though. now when it gets watered down to road shows and non original casts... it'll be 'like that'.

Maaaaan, Hamilton. Right before the Old Times ended we took a trip to England to see a friend perform. We planned a few days in London as well, as one does, and my wife bought Hamilton tickets. When we showed up at the venue’s will-call the nice lady there let us know that we were a day late. Oops! I didn’t even get to say they looked like they were having fun up there. Jeez!

    Oh yeah. Beer!

No, we can talk about that on TDPRI, it's just that some people will insist being buried under 20ft of volcanic ash is a choice.

You said it with @Dan German. There are SO many good choices these days. Except for some international trips, most travel I do is just like home with great brewers close by. On occasion we do however find ourselves buying some Pilsner Urquell at home and well known international brands when the traveling options are sketchy.

I'm more spoiled than ever with our neighborhood brewery having a 7 barrel system now. They're a granddaddy of the modern small brewer with regional distribution and off site bottling so fell behind some trends. This is the second year they're making a nice "Trail Head Ale" for us where proceeds help our trail building. With restrictions lifting, the tradition of kids, dogs and live music in the biergarten resumed.

It’s tough to find here on this side of the country, unless you’re willing to wait in line for it.
Finally had it a couple times on a trip to California in 2019. It was really good, but I’m not waiting in line for it, the hype is more than the product
