have heard about this beer for YEARS. Always sold out, never available.

My wife got one and we tried it today. It was fun to have the 'rare bird' but no biggie.. just a pale ale.

we did get takeout from La Villa de Jerez and it was amazeballs. and the Giants are in the 10th.

No go try Pliny the Younger. If only it was more available.

the Elder kind of tastes like you are sucking on a pine cone.

I've had to listen to my sister in PDX go on about Pliny the Elder (chance encounters, near misses, etc...) for years.

Give me a Working for the Weekend and I'm good.

    Summer is coming...

It is alright but I like Yard's Pale Ale better.

They do a great marketing job (by keeping it relatively scarce), but it's over-rated in my opinion. I imagine pine needle tea would taste similar. When Pliny the Younger comes out, all the local TV stations hype it; I have never had it, but supposedly it's the DIPA version.

Similar story about my buddy trolling the local liquor stores for Pliny the Elder. Every year driving to where he found it and being limited to 1 or 2...

    I prefer Stone ‘Enjoy By”...

All I can say is that having lived through the ‘70s and ‘80s, I welcome the amazing variety of quality beers available to me in my waning years. People can b***h all they want about hipsters and too much hops, but there is truly something (and something else as well) for everyone out there, unlike the Bad Old Days.

My wife & I scored a bottle while traveling CA a few years back and I liked it a LOT, but $8 a bottle is a bit rich for my blood. We also discovered soon after that Monk’s Cafe in Philly nearly always has it available on draft...we slightly preferred the bottle.

Russian River makes some great beer. Including the Plinys. Everyone has different taste in beer, That's cool. I'm glad there are so many options.

Sounds like Coors in the 60s-70s when you couldn’t get it east of the Mississippi
An ok beer until it changed in the ‘80s and became a marketing POS

Full disclosure- I don’t care for IPAs. If I wanted a bitter beer I’d drink a skunked Coors

Had a decades old can of unopened Billy beer for years, never had the nerve to drink it. Best beer I ever had was in Germany with some brats. I mean, parents deez days!

And that’s OK. There is now something for everyone.

Full disclosure: I love bitter hoppy beers, and I’ve had seriously skunked Coors. They’re not as similar as you might think. :D

exactly. what is funny is that our local coffee roaster is where we got it. They always have popup microbrews, but they 'according to rumor' sometimes get some... my wife stopped by for coffee with the puppy and when she saw it, she bought it.

    ha ha, she is awesome.

    but, mystery solved. no biggy.

Only fourple IPAs brewed in barrels lined with wombat hide that have a rattlesnake head fastened to the bottom using a ten penny nail for me.

    All else is contemptable weakness.

Unless they have Yuengling on tap.
