When I lived on the south side of Chicago, I became friendly with an older woman who was a cashier. She told me that she and her husband used to get dressed up and go hear Howlin' Wolf. She made it sound like a very classy thing to do. She also told me that at midnight, he would go "wowwwoouuu," "wowwwoouuu." Very low and soft, not wild. I got the impression that he was known for that on the south side. I haven't read that anywhere, so I don't really know how often he did that.

Well, I'm gonna see if I can get Hubert to sign my pickguard. Ya think a few beer would do it?

There's a really cool video (couldn't find it) of Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones introducing Howlin' Wolf in 1964. I guess the Stones could not believe that American kids didn't know who he was.

You can see Jones leave the mike as Wolf starts.
