Having a real head scratcher tonight, trying to remember a song that I used to play my daughter when she was young.

I think it would have been between 2010-2012

You would describe the band/artist as quirky indie pop/rock probably and I think they were American or Canadian

This wasn't a big band (I don't think) which makes it harder for me to remember, nor was it a very popular band which is why nobody I know knows what I'm going on about.

.. anyway I'm drawing a total blank as to the name of the band/artist and I can't remember a single line from the song... however I do recall it being humorous... maybe in a similar vein to Liam Lynch or Presidents of the USA. (or maybe it just had a humorous video?)

The biggest clue I can give you is that there was an 'official video' on Youtube. The video starts with the singer walking into a small roadhouse kind of bar where there's a 'talent contest' happening, he puts a boom box down on the ground presses play and starts playing along to the song... the people in the audience aren't impressed and are like 'WTF' at first. Later in the video it cuts outside and I think there might be a bit with the rest of the band playing around some trees on the grass or something.

It must have been something fun and catchy as my Daughter was only about 10 and she liked it a lot.

... and that's all I have. ... and ideas? I'm 99% certain on the video stuff as I never 'owned' the song, we just used to watch it on youtube, but I could be misremembering everything else. 😞

Lost in the 909 trying to find my way home
I’m really sorry. I can’t help you but, as I read your description this just popped into my head, something which happens very frequently when I’m reading posts on this website
I hope you don’t mind a bit of irrelevance

I'm currently searching through the entire Matador records cataloge on Discogs to see if that rings any bells ...

I think it may be in that Sons and Daughters, The New Pornographers, kind of vein.
