Initially, I had zero interest in a semi-hollow body guitar. Just give me a Tele, a Les Paul or maybe a Strat and I'm good to go.
But I kept seeing YouTube videos with ES 335s in them and loved the tone and eventually had to bite on a D'Angelico DC XT. Got a great deal on it.

And then, because one of something good is never enough, I got a Gretsch.
They sound totally different but I love 'em both.

so while stopping in GC today, I made the mistake of trying out a few guitars

a 335 type from Epiphone felt really good and sounded good through a couple amps

the nut was a 1-5/8, which I typically find too small, but the something about how it was all set up, or maybe the Gibson scale length, made everything feel like I could really dig in

now I have aspirations I didn't expect

(an aside: I also played an old Kay archtop that sounded fantastic but needed set-up work and a re-fret with bigger frets)

is the world full of interesting guitars? damn them

The 335 is the natural compliment to the telecaster. I don’t quite know why. (Not to knock Les Paul’s, sgs, explorers, V,S etc. all brilliant. But if you have a tele the 335 is the Gibson to have.

Ha, ha. Welcome!
I’d been jonesing for a wine red or cherry 335 since about 1977 or so.
I could never afford one.
Finally about 10 years ago a vintage dealer alerted me to a 2004 cherry with a headstock repair. It was at a price I could afford and justify so I jumped on it.
It’s one of the best instruments I’ve ever owned.

Speaking from experience -

The gretsch only intensifies the 335 cravings, and vice versa.

The only resolve is to have both. Love my 6119. Every time I think I’ll sell it to fund a 335 I remember why I NEED the bigsby and filtertrons in my life.

My D'Angelico has Seymour Duncan Psyclone pickups in it, which is their take on the Filtertrons. I played it last night and once more was struck by how great it plays and sounds.
I almost sprung for the Bigsby version when I bought my Gretsch.
In retrospect, I wish I had ...
