But his Custom wasn't a fifties, it's a late sixties, you can tell by it having two pickups, not three.

Anyway, last year, Golden Earring called it quits when guitarist/ lead singer George Kooymans revealed he had ALS and thus wouldn't be able to play guitar anymore. Golden Earring had been around for sixty years and during at least 80% of those sixty years, Kooymans played a 1959 "Black Beauty" as his main axe.

That's the guitar he played on "Radar love"

They made two pickup customs in the 50’s the big give away is the maple top

That was one of the main differences of the customs in the 50’s they were solid Mahogany

David Gilmour used a 1955 LP Gold Top with P-90s to record the "Another Brick in the Wall Solo and kept it...

...until his tech found him a 1956 with a Bigsby. He stated that he gets lonely without his whammy bar.

He then sold the '55 at the big auction for charity but I understand he's kept the '56.

Wrong guitar... But thought I'd post it anyway.

My buddy, who plays Pedal steel, did a private gig near the beach in San Diego last year... And the guitarist is rocking this:

An all original 51 Esquire, straight into a Blues JR... Kinda blew me away someone would be rocking a 20-$30k guitar at a backyard birthday bash lol.

A large appraised value does not change what it fundamentally is, though.
A great, simple, durable, versatile, and almost indestructible musical tool.
Very cool!

Bursts began in 58...I believe, and there were only dozens made that year. A few hundred 59s and 60's right?

I mean, there's not a ton of em around.
