Who are some players that inspire you to pick up the guitar, but at the same time you feel the challenge of getting to a place close to their ability seems so daunting you just want to put the guitar back down?

For me it would have to be John Fahey. Listening to him makes me want to keep at it and learn to play like him, but then I actually watch him and it just blows my mind how he composes and plays.

Most of my guitar heroes have that effect on me, but especially Ry Cooder.

I never feel like quitting. I always feel buoyed by a good performance. Who it is doesn’t matter.

I like looking to Warren Haynes, David Gilmour and Richie Kotzen for inspiration as well as stealing licks from Billy Gibbons, Hendrix, Neil Young, James Taylor and a bunch of others. If I like what I hear I don't get discouraged that I may not be able to play it at that moment. Instead it motivates and inspires me to incorporate their style, licks etc into my own playing. I don't put a timer on myself so if it takes decades so be it. What happens is I usually look back every 5 or so years and realise I have gone a long way with my playing without realising it.

    Tommy Emmanuel without a doubt.
I watch him and he doesn’t look like he’s doing anything out of the ordinary, but the sound a tone are just perfection.
I like his music, but at times I feel like throwing my guitar out a window.

Mark Knopfler is very inspiring as is James Taylor, I can get very close on many of their songs to getting it right.
