I ticked all of the above, because I play guitar, so I'm a player. I love to read about them, modify things, and am in the process of putting together a partscaster, which I'm guessing makes me a gearhead. And I have more guitars than I need, which makes me a collector. I do get pleasure from looking at them hanging on the wall, much like people who buy art do. Only I get to play with my art collection, which is a lot more fun.

I assumed that's what a gearhead is. I don't have enough talent for the instrument to consider myself a player. I always hope that next piece of gear is going to be the thing that unlocks it all.

Nope, not that one. Guess I need another pedal.

I only have enough money to be a Player.. Not enough to be a gearhead, and certainly not enough to be a collector

I'm a player, but find myself with a growing "collection" of 20+ guitars. None of them retail for more than $1000, so I'm not a traditional "collector" by any means. I play them all, and if not, they get moved on.

Bottom line: I really like guitars. :D

Player. I have about 30 musical instruments, but that is because I try to play too many different instruments. Other than replacing the neck pickup in my Telecaster when it became microphonic, I don't modify any of my instruments. I have 5 electric guitars and couldn't tell you what the fret size or neck radius is on any of them.

Player and semi-gearhead. I’m not obsessed. I see them as a tool. PreC19 I gigged regularly and will do so PostC19. None of my guitars are very valuable with the exception of my Taylor, but they do get played regularly.

I choose player gearhead. But I have collectable pieces. I'm a collector from the standpoint if the price is right. But I also ask, will I use it?

I voted player and gearhead but as a player with a lot of gear the only thing between me and collector is safe storage and mint condition or rare. I'm, also a sometimes or has been guitar tech and have assembled partscasters for 40 years so, stuff accumulates.

I've bought & sold collector stuff and every ten years or so my damned gear becomes collectible so I have to sell it.

Sux that the market turns old still working junk into high value museum pieces.
Makes tools into liabilities, to me at least.

I used to play many instruments but age & arthritis made it impossible to keep up any skills on them all.
Can't bring myself to sell off many though.

I'm a player, that's my purpose, and it would be going too far to call me a gearhead, but I have probably accumulated more gear than a player like me really needs.

Songwriter, which means that none of those categories works for me.

Not interested in being a virtuoso, so not a player. Maybe a noodler.

    Don't care about collecting.

Don't care about gear that I don't need.

For a songwriter the guitars and gear are all just tools. Although I do seem to have a lot of tools . . .

All three for me. I have played for 25 years now...but I sound like I have played for one year and have started from zero 25 times. I’m a gearhead because I love turning knobs and love having more knobs to turn. And lastly I’m a collector, not necessarily because of the number of items I have, but in my opinion, because I do have a couple of mint/near mint items kept stored away retaining their condition.
