I thought Pixar did a good job of making you think about heavy things in a light hearted way. They sort of snuck up on the big issues without endorsing any particular philosophy or doctrine. And they made some observations regarding living that I thought were valid. Well done, gentlemen!

It was a great movie! Watched it just yesterday and I'm no flim critic, but it really stands out from the rest, 10/10.:)

Watched it with the family last night. Based on the trailer, I wasn’t really excited about it. Gotta say, they knocked it out of the park.

I thought it might hit home with folks around here regarding music. The protagonist's dream was to make it as a musician and focused his whole life around that goal.

They have a great formula going. Soul, like the others, makes me want to do the work to be a better functioning human.

No. I think they sold it to get Toy Story 4 made.

We watched it a week or two ago (we do pizza/movie night on Fridays) - it was definitely nothing like I was expecting, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think my wife and I dug it more than my kid...

Many Pixar movies work on all levels....lotta forethought goes into their stories. That's one reason they hold up over time imo.

I guess everyone agrees with the conclusions of the movie. They seem pretty universal to me.

That’s just it. I really don’t think it has much entertainment value for kids, which is surely the target demographic.

I’ve seen films like toy story countless times. Those films contain a moral and some thought provoking topics but are still entertaining to kids. I can honestly say I can’t see me or my kids revisiting Soul.

    Bit of a miss IMO.

Yeah, the trailer was terrible (as they all seem to be the past few years).

My wife and our 5 1/2 year old daughter really enjoyed it. She didn't get the faceless "angel" people at all and I think the deeper stuff totally slipped over her head too but it was excellent.

Pixar does do an impressive job of creating kid's movies that are good for adults - I really enjoyed the Cars movies when my son was younger and I also really enjoyed Coco

Maybe not as much entertainment as usual but more depth than usual? Surely there's enough of one to bridge into the other? I guess you could say I think it has lasting value.

That to me is the definition of good art.

Looking at the previews, I had no reason to believe Soul was a 'kids movie.' Just because it's animated, doesn't mean it's for kids. Pixar is more than that. A movie about life & death, existentialsm, and other mystical realms just might not be aimed at your pre-schooler.

I don't suspect there are a lot of Soul action figures stocking the toy shelves at WM right now.

I deny the existence of a "soul". Should I still go and see it or will my *tisk*ing annoy other patrons?

Being that Pixar make kids films I think it was a pretty fair assumption.

I got the moral. I respect it. Refreshing to see a black protagonist. Lots of positives.

These themes just didn’t particularly resonate with my 6 and 8 year old boys.

I personally just found it very slow. To each their own.

It's not in theaters...you'll only run the risk of annoying your family.

I can understand your reasoning here.

Yet kids are more sophisticated now than ever before. I wouldn't underestimate them.
