Niiice. Always good to see players tearing away that awful poly in opposition to the devil's finish. Must say, I don't get the second pickguard, would make it kinda uncomfortable to rest your arm maybe? In any case, cool refurb.

Yes! Hated the poly on this one. On some fenders it doesn’t bother me, but this guitar’s finish had been getting to me as of late.

I just think an arm guard looks cool. Not uncomfortable to me. It’s a place holder until i make a nicer one (maybe out of wood) someday.

Awesome guitar, nice work! Which stain did you use for this?

I used a oil based ebony stain. The label said it’d dry in an hour, but that was a joke!
I let it set for about an hour after I put in on, and then I rubbed the front and back with mineral spirits. The stain stayed in the grain and just darkened the surrounding areas. I tried to keep the sides as black as I could, i was 98% successful there.

Thanks, I love how it turned out. I was torching a body last night, but stain might be easier next time.

I was thinking of torching mine too, but I like the effect of the stain in the grain. Also, i’d imagine with torching, the sanding afterwards would be endless! I’d love to see a photo of your progress.

    I'd say you achieved it!
It seems to say "Don't pick me up and try to play me without asking for permission first".

Will do, I'll start a thread this weekend. Didn't get too far into the torching process, ran out of fuel. Will swing by the hardware store after work and try some more.

:D thanks. It's been my main workhorse since I built it. Only thing I miss is a Bigsby like on yours.

I hear ya. I got my first Gretsch about a year ago, and now I own three! After playing a guitar with a bigsby, I realized I can’t go without one so I had this one slapped on the tele. I’m real happy with the choice.
