    Question:

I have a neck with a vintage stain and a plain maple that I stained that can be stripped and aged. I’m not sure how the maple will look aged but I think it will look better.

I have some scrap maple I’ll try first but what do y’all think?

I’ll be in Gruene tomorrow. If I can get in the hall, I’ll take some pics.

I'm thinking this would work great on a roasted body and wouldn't need any finish.
Curse you for making me want to build one!!! ;)

the patina you created really does look like old wood. nice job!

Did you wipe it with black tea, and then wipe it with vinegar that had steel wool soaking in it for while? Do you have any pictures of the process as you were applying it?

I love that concept. Reliced guitars normally turn me off, but I like that fact that you can have your friends or biddies initial you guitar and be part of the visual look. Good Job!

Yes, wipe it with tea, let dry. Apply vinegar and it greys up.

I’ll do some during pictures of the neck

Did some things. I started stripping the red neck (ha) and decided to just see what would happen. We're about an hour in and it's early days but it may come out pretty cool.
    Just applied:

I also did what I am calling "flame binding" I was playing with the soldering iron making some cigarette burns as suggested and thought, it'd be really cool to just burn around the entire perimeter.

I'm going to completely strip the neck. I doubt the maple will age the same as the pine but I don't like the tint on it now.

This is such a cool idea! Not sure what you are planning for a pick guard, but there must be someone out there that makes wooden ones that can match up with your body? Or something with a worn, weathered, dark, stained, scratched, brushed nickel look?

I was going to do a matte black but the one I got has a horrible bridge gap. I might get some copper veneer and put that on.

Got some more done today. I am happy with the neck now, we’re about an hour into the aging.

The body looks great, I really like the aged look. What did you use to get the grayed effect?

Should I defile the headstock to match the body?

Fit everything up, it will all come apart to be finished. I will wear the headstock, clear coat, age the screws so everything matches and age the pickguard.
