So, like many, I'm not a big fan of relic guitars, but I am a fan of old stuff and neglected stuff. So I was looking for some lefty tuners at GFS (all sold out) and I noticed their rusty, crusty line of parts. I had a pine tele body sitting downstairs and inspiration hit. Why don't I scratch it up, graffiti it and make it look like an old picnic table?

So, yeah, I did. I don't know why but I think it looks pretty cool and I am in the process of weathering it so we'll see if the effect is as desired.

This guy might be a little controversial and it's cool if it's not your bag. I'm not even sure if it's my bag, but it will be different and that's what I wanted!

You should try and leave a cup of cold water sitting on top of it to see if it'll leave the ring mark from the cup.. That might add a nice touch

I did burn it some with a heat pen. It would be nice to find some old school cigs to leave burning but I think new ones go out too easy.

I know you mean douse with gas though...might be too extreme for something that needs to be handled though.

I love that phrase. If the whales don't have hair, they're no longer mammals, and we can eat them because no one cares about fish!

I wonder what whale milk tastes like

If I ever saw a whale in a nursing bra I would probably be too polite to ask

...just in case you were brushing your teeth:

"When the female whale lactates the thickness of the whales milk can vary greatly.

In fact a 35% – 50% fat concentration is common among many species of whale as the higher fat percentage allows the whales milk to travel through the water without breaking up.

The thick milk is often referred to as having a toothpaste like consistency."

Kind of interesting - I seem to remember some old bar & grill type joints where folks had autographed or embellished the tables; seems like there's not too many of those places left. Your basic suburban franchise places seem to frown on that kind of activity. Did you check out your local parks or are you just working off of old memories?

...apparently toothpaste must have some other meaning in the UK...I was only passing along the trivia of consistency similarities; dentrificial, so to speak...

That's cool. It seems like a pretty small step between that and what Fender is selling for $7500 with re-purposed Hollywood Bowl planks.

I like re-purposed stuff. Even if it's faked. Not too much different than relicing, really.

That looks more like a desk from my old school than a picnic table.
Looks great. Spill some fruit juice on it.

I love it and the theme. However, the anti-relic pitchfork and torch crowd may rake you over the coals for 12 more pages if you age it too much.
