I fitted a set of Tonerider Rocksongs.I love them ,they seem to do most types of music from Rock to country with ease .They have that expensive and exclusive pop that comes only with good pickups .The stock ones certainly didnt have it .I also recommend fitting a Gotoh bridge and tail .They give a far better acoustic clarity and ring and positive tone .The stock versions are really just cheap junk sadly .

I put S-D 59ers in a Dot for a pal, and it's the second-best sounding guitar he owns - the first is a Gibson "Lucille" that I put a 59er and JB bridge pup in, reworked the Varitone, and put in a p/p to coils-parallel the JB...

+2 Toneriders.

I put Alnico2 8/12k Tonerider Rocksongs into my Epi Joe Pass jazzbox - great. Much better than the Epi Classic57 (Casino prolly same). Alnico5 8/16k Tonerider Generators might pack a bit more punch for the bridge in a thin one but you don't want too much power in a hollow semi.

jon moore's mismatched wound humbuckers.. alnico 2 in neck, and alnico 3 in bridge.

dont use the dot much as i play in an acoustic duo and single coils sound better to my ear with an acoustic guitar.

but, the dot with moore's pups has a lot of character, power and shimmer. very clear in the neck (no mud) and the bridge is powerful and clear without being too bright. (i dont have to back off on the tone)

larry carlton territory...

imho.

I had a set of Toneriders Alnico IV Classics Set - AC4, I put in a Epiphone Les Paul.
VERY NICE !!

I've also read good things about the Rocksong too.

You can play sound clips at their website:

I used to have a dot which I traded for an Epi LP, which I then turned around about a week later and traded for a Gibby LP.

Had I kept the Dot, I would've upgraded the pups with Gibby 57 Classics.

And that is my recommendation for you (if you haven't already made up your mind.) My thought is that the best way to get as close to an accurate Gibson ES335 sound out of an Epi dot, is to use the same pups in the Gibby.

I guess I'm just a bit of a purist. :)

I ordered the Pickups for the dot finally. i went with a set of GFS Vintage 59's. i have had very good luck with their products. after a brief discussion with Jay via email, we both figured these would be a good match for my want of pearly gates. i can't wait till they get here.
