Hey Folks,
The knob on my 2015 American Standard Tele falls off very easy.

What's the proper fix?

Should I contact Fender for a replacement knob?

There are numerous ways to fix this problem, but the one I most recently used, worked quite well. I placed a very small amount of clear silicone caulk on the switch tip and then pushed the knob on. Let it dry and you're back in business. I've done this on two Teles and neither knob has released since. Be careful not to let the silicone touch the paint, especially on a nitro finish.

As long as the knob isn't compromised. You can place a piece of double sided tape length wise over the blade of the switch.

Then slide the tip back on the blade.

You don't necessarily need double sided tape. I've used duct tape and painters tape also.

Just something to create enough friction to hold the tip on.

The Rutters knurled steel tips w/set screw, look pretty cool.

Just hard to part with $25.00 for a switch tip though.

Still pretty cool!

I like putting the strat tips on there because it leaves more room for my fingers. I have always thought the telecaster switch tips were bulky.

I just glued one down yesterday. A single drop of gorilla and it will never come off again until I need to replace the switch......which may never happen.

The *right* way would be to buy a new one on ebay.
Feel free to epoxy, gorilla glue, or cyanoacrylate to your heart's content. And don't sell the guitar without informing the buyer.

I bought a used Epiphone LP Special double cut in TV yellow, which had a few bodged repairs. The two position switch had its original handle replaced by a rubber eyedropper bulb over several layers of white cloth medical tape, which was a chore to unravel. One of the controls had its knob epoxied to its shaft, which I discovered when I tried to remove the knob (with a proper knob puller) and the shaft came along with the knob.

I don't know if there is a "proper" way. Some would bend the shaft a little and then push the tip down. I just glued it, because if you needed to remove the switch, it was no good anyway so cutting the shaft off with a dremel is not a big deal.

I used super-glue on mine switch tip. Worked like a charm. I see no reason to not use super-glue.

I use Elmer's glue. Not as "permanent" as super glue, but still works really well.

if hew take a pair of diagonal pliers and squeeze twice on the switch shaft [ >-< ] it'll leave some burrs on the shaft that will hold the tip on but can still be removed when needed

Didn't we do this thread a month ago?

Tiny strip of regular masking tape folded over the tip of the blade (sticky side to the metal), then pushing the barrel knob on is how mine are. Holds great, and one was really loose before. But any of the above methods work.
