I’m a strat player and the people on strat talk aren’t being cooperative so I thought I’d ask the tele people, I’m looking for a vintage strat sound that’s articulate and very glassy with just a tad of warmth the three that have sparked my interest are the CS 54s, PV 59s and 57/62s, for the owners of these which would recommend for me?

I've been intrigued by the CS54s but I haven't gotten to hear them in real life.

Don't know anything about the PVs.

I have the 57/62s in one Strat, and honestly, there is nothing very special about them. Just a good average Strat sound. Others obviously feel differently though.

Never owned them, but the CS 54’s were on my short list once as well.

I went with Van Zandt. Outstanding pickups.

I owned the Lollar BF set quite a few years ago - that was just what it sounded like. Too glassy for some, just right for others? Dunno. You can probably get in the ballpark with any normal A5 strat set wound to around 6.5k dcr, in my limited experience that is the basic formula.

I’m gonna be that guy who has no personal experience making a suggestion.

Look into the offerings from Bootstrap Pickups. I haven’t used their Strat pickups (yet), but they may have something up your alley.

I have a slightly hotter flat-pole Bootstrap set and I dig 'em. Might not be wahtchoo looking for, but they have good stuff at good prices.

I have strats with both the Custom shop 54's and PV 59's. I like them both a lot. However the CS 54's have a reverse wound middle and the 59's have all the same polarity. My all time favorites are still the Frailin Vintage Hots, but they are quite a bit more expensive. My next strat will have the Lollar Blonds. I heard clips that I like and have always wanted to try them out.

Between the 54s and the 59s which are clearer?

CS69s are what you are describing. But I really liked the CS54s, the bridge pickup seem a bit more mid heavy. More rock n roll.

I'm waiting on a '59 Clone set from Mojotone for my Strat build. Have you considered them?

    I don't understand why Fender's CS54s have A5 magnets. The real originals had A3.

To my ears, the 59's are clearer. The CS 54's are wound a little hotter and have a little more edge, especially in the bridge spot. The 59's are all wound the same I believe.

Thoughts on the 57/62s and the 59s? Which would you pick?

I had some 57/62s that came stock on my AV62 reissue. They were ok, but I replaced those with some Lindy Frailin vintage hots. To answer your question, for me it would no doubt be the 59's over the 57/62s. To my ears they sound better.
