Can someone break the code for me regarding these screws? I am sure they must be available at a hardware store somewhere. My local neighborhood store did not have them. I need one screw for a squier strat pickup. I will install with bubble gum before I pay 7 bucks to ship a 2 dollar item.

Any thoughts?

Daddy....

....check eBay. Also, I've found them at Sam Ash (if you have one in your part of PA). They're one of the last guitar stores to carry parts. You might also find them at a GC, although their part selection isn't great. But, you're right.
They're tough to find at hardware stores. I even bought some from StewMac once, and although they fit, they had the wrong head on them. So, it probably is a non-standard screw. I might also call Fender. They've sent me out parts
no-charge, at times. I had an obsure model once (showmaster) and lost the whammy bar. Not an easy find, since it was some unique metric thread size.

No Sam Ash. I did try to get pickguard screws at the new Guitar Center. The sales guy looked at me like I was growing another head out of my shoulders.

Does Dimarzio use a different size screw? I took out a Dimarzio that was installed in the 70's. When I was buttoning things up I had 2 different size screws left for the new pickup. One was too big (I reamed it in there) and one was too small so the pickup is falling in.

6-32 x 3/4" oval head machine screw. I just bought 100 from boltdepot in stainless for about $5. Works for me.

you might try your local yellow pages under "fasteners" or "hardware". i have several places in my neighborhood that deal in nothing but screws and bolts and stuff. although i never needed pickup screws they helped me with some "bastard threads" for my 52 harley WL.
