I recently reassembled this guitar my Dad finished this summer with a new roasted maple neck. I'm really happy with how the guitar sounds and plays, but I'm not sure I like black pickguard as much with the darker neck. I'm considering switching it to something light, like mint, parchment, or white, or tortoise shell. What do you guys think?

Tort (this is routed for a Strat so I would need to order a new guard--but this gives you an idea):

I’m not big on tort but the brown tort really looks good.

I agree with JL_LI. I'm not a fan on tortoise, but on this guitar it looks great. The black isn't bad, either. Not a fan of the white. White pearloid might look pretty awesome, too.

The black looks sharp. It accentuates the body's beautiful grain. Nice job!

Black always looks good on a natural finished Tele, but I also like the tortoise shell look.

Tortoise shell is a traditional pick guard material on a lot of natural finished guitars, acoustics in particular.

Of the three I like tort. The black or white are too sharp of a contrast in my opinion

The original neck had modern tuners with pearl buttons, and it almost got a white pearloid pickguard.

I like Tort, but it can be hit or miss. This one is from Warmoth and I was really happy with the color. I have a Strat pickguard that I ordered from them that is very similar, so I feel pretty confident that if I decide to go this way, I could order it from Warmoth and end up with something similar.

I vote for tortoise; black would be my #2.

IMO tortoise always looks good on a natural. My '06 American Series came with a parchment guard. It looks good too. Not quite as stark as plain white.

I like the brown grill cloth but maybe the gold tweed too. (Site is greasygroove. no affiliation just like to browse.)

You've already got the gold hardware. I can't decide if it would be too much gold or if it would be just right.
TDPRI will have to judge it.

I like the tortoise, but I think it needs to be more red.

Plain black looks pretty good. Cream might work. A dark grey pattern might work. Do your magic with photoshop and try them all.
