Pickguard cutout for truss-rod adjustment

    On Teles and Esquires that are supposedly absolute replicas (and other Fenders too) I sometimes see this feature and sometimes not. Has this ever been factory standard, if so, from when on?

    Often, this little semi-circular area seems more scraped/gouged away than a clean cut, too.

    I don’t think it was standard till the later 60’s maybe 65-66ish?
    (Semi educated guess someone here probably knows for sure)

    No matter the little divot it’s usually not enough so i always take the pickguard off, although some body’s don’t have a notch in them which you have to take the neck off

    It’s usually always gouged from trying to get screw drivers to fit in there, at least on old examples
