    Hello,

Just looking for some input on a new pickguard for the guitar below. I feel that the Les Paul one it currently has does not do it justice. Was thinking of a Tele Custom from Warmoth in cream. Open to any and all suggestions. Also, anything to watch out for when ordering, as this will be my first custom pickguard order. Thanks!

Black looks great on that guitar. The LP guard is nice, a thinline guard would work well, but hide more of that beautiful sunburst~

Gotta say, that guitar deserved not to have a pickguard in the worst way.

    I rather like that one...

If I was going to put another guard on it, I'd probably look at one like this, but cut straight at the back since you don't have a standard control plate. I would also go with black as it looks good on that finish.

    .

Look up the Cabronita models, there were Fender and Squier ones made. They used a half-guard similar to the one above.

+1 stay with black. You might flirt with Tort, but only if the Tort shades match the shades of your top, which can be very problematic.

I have to vote "no guard" on that beautiful guitar.

I don’t disagree. Alas, this is how I found it.

Me too. I like to see the wood, even if it’s scratched and pitted from playing.

Not sure how easy it is to fill holes and make them invisible, but to your point there are only two to fill.

I am always amazed what a good luthier can do to hide thins. Put sequents in each hole till you bring it to have it done.

And, while the luthier's at it, have him fill/patch the extra holes for the superfluous two volume/tone pots. ;)

I don't think a cabronita guard will cover the screw hole. As mentioned, it will need fixed. I would stick with a black PG. Cream would look strange with the black pup ring. You might need to shape it a little around the pup ring.

I like what you have. I wouldn't mess with it except that I would change all the screws to black including the ones on the pickup rings.

I would go with a tortoise Cabronita style. You want one with a reddish coloration for that burst but the brown would look good too.

You can try one routed for a Filtertron and just enlarge the pickup routeor you humbucker or go with the no-notch style and cut your pickup notch to suit. This may help to fit the guard so that you get the tip to cover the upper screw hole.

They are cheap enough that you can buy one one black and one tortoise to see which you prefer.

Here's a Strat in similar color with a red tortoise on it:
