I traded a 62 JM even up for a FB5 in 1976. Three p90s, nice sounding guitar, balance was OK. The JM was one of the most comfortable guitars I've played in my life.

FB5 was Gibson trying to build a Strat. As a player, just get a Strat.

It was possibly the dumbest equipment move I ever made. JM was just a better guitar. Sounded better. Felt better. Looked better. Just plain better.

In a fit of GAS insanity I bought an Epiphone Studio Firebird and realized there's a heck of a lot of useless wood behind the bridge on those things. That huge tailpiece decoration adds some dress-up and gives that empty space some purpose in life.

The FB actually balances very well. It's a light guitar, probably due to the skinny body and it has the belly cut which makes it comfy to play. They are really very similar in that respect, with the FB being lighter overall. The difference is really the pickups and the neck profile. The Firebird sounds best at volume, particularly into a Beano Boost. Not much chance of that at the moment though...

Yeah. I think so too. I think the 335 replaces the FB. And a bunch of other stuff too, looking at vintage prices

Keep the Jazzmaster. P90s are great. Personally, I don't like skinny neck profiles.

Always had a thing for non-reverse Firebirds... very cool, so that would be my call... and, as others have pointed out, the JM would be an easier sell... just look at the replies to your question!

Definitely keep the Jazzmaster. I had a mid-60's non-reverse Firebird and it was seriously one of the worst guitars I've ever played and really, really uncomfortable.

My wife, who does not play, says keep the Jazzmaster.

I, who barely plays, agree with her.
