I think the fact that his big hit "To know him is to love him" was inspired by, and took it's title from, the inscription on his dad's gravestone would support that theory.

I grew up in the Spector era and while his slick, full, stylized production was distinctive, it was mannered and dehumanized at the same time it was sonicly awesome. I think the individuality of singers and songwriters, and the quality of a song itself were all lost under the overwhelming veneer of the production. I don't see any genuis in this -- just control, ego, and a monomaniacally mannered approach. His life actions and his production style seem very similar to me. I loved some of his singers, but they sounded like they were tyotally dominated by the production -- and the producer.

Like many in the music, film/TV, and sports fields, a very talented guy, but a despicable human being.

More of the same self-righteous nonsense from people who have apparently never done anything bad. "Oh, but I didn't do THAT!" Okay, so you did a different kind of bad.

Truth is, we're all rotten to the core. We have different kinds of rotten.

George Martin said he thought Let It Be should say "Produced by George Martin , Over produced by Phil Spector". I agree.

I’m not basing my comments on any kind of moral evaluation of the guy or his life. I just didn’t like the guy. So stuff him, I’m glad he’s dead.

As for me doing bad things, yeah, so?
