Musically...he was good.
Personally...he was a POS and a murderer.
Seinfeld reference when Jerry and George were falsely assumed to be gay. They spent the episode trying to prove they’re not gay, and they kept saying “not there’s anything wrong with that”.
Not that there's anything wrong with that
Spector's father committed suicide in 1949 (when Phil was ten years old). I suspect that this was probably the impetus of what he developed into as a person.
That's a great point, his productions really sounded great on a transistor radio. Very sad that by the looks of him during the trial, I think all the drugs just fried his brain.
In a way I've always thought a lot of Bruce Springsteen's songs are in the same lane as the "wall of sound".
A very complicated man whose devils are finally silenced
Springsteen has said in the past that he strove to write lyrics like Dylan and have a sound like Spector's.
With John Lennon and Yoko
my roommate used to get high and what sienfroint, I hate it ,I'd got upstares and close my door
I said I hate that show those people are disgusting and he said that the whole point they are supposed to be disgusting. So you get smacked out so that you can sit around enjoying how stupid other people are? Man that is a dark drug, a very late on arrival, and obvious comment on heroin addiction. a drug that allows one to enjoy hating others, nice.
I the level of patronization in telling someone else NTTAWWT in reference to their sexual orientation is worthy of a kick in the groin and kidneys, imho.
Whoever said that, was crazy.
No doubt, coined by a damaged person.
Something tells me, all the great acts that he associated with, were successful independent of his association. He may have had a knack for knowing which acts to coattail. I don't see him as particularly talented, nor a genius, or complicated. I think he celebrated pure selfishness in its horrid extremes, and found the means to fund it and get away with it for a long time.
Blow Away Dandelion ...
he was a genius and a lunatic. sometimes the two show up in the same person.
Even if he hadn’t been a horrible person otherwise, I don’t think I could forgive him for what he did to The Ramones.
It was their worst album because he produced it.
Feel the TDPRI love....
That said, he had a production style that, like it or not, set a standard that many imitated. I've also learned that the most intense and legit artists usually had something wrong going on in the head...
Always liked the Wall Of Sound!
If the wig dont fit
A talented man who did a bad thing. He was obviously a deeply disturbed individual. He’s paid the final price.
Amazed that he made it to 81. I hope/pray that I live that long and I'm a God fearing man.
