    Hey guys,

I can’t seem to figure out which I like better — my phaser early in my signal chain (before the drive) or later in the signal chain (after the drive).

I’m going to keep moving it around the signal path until I find I place where I really like it.

But where do you put your phaser in the signal chain?

I like it before drive. But i only use medium gain overdrive, almost clean. On distortion i dont use phaser at all. I rather use chorus on distortion wich i like after distorion. But the flanging or univibe type of effect i much like before distortion strangely... wich is odd.

Bahhh... its all taste. Sometimes my head feels like my butt and sometimes the otherway around when i dable around with my pedals. :D

I like having both set up. Sometimes one works better than the other.

I tried both and like mine after. It’s personal.

I like it before generally, but after can be cool depending on the sound you want at the moment.

For the best of both, I go drive/dirt at the front of my chain, then all the other stuff and finally a boost pedal. That way you have a balance of drive before and after.

I place mine 1st in the chain (technically 2nd after the tuner). Seems to work better with dirt if the phase sweeps into the OD. Like cool peaks in the gain.

I come from the generation that heard phasers, flangers, and delays on records and ran out and bought one and then discovered that on the records they did the phasing and flanging in the studio after the amp (distortion) and speaker. We learned the hard way because we couldn't make our pre-amplifier effects sound anything like the records.

Both sound pretty different. Which do you prefer?

surprised to see so many people like it BEFORE....

I hear tons of people say after. It is a modulation? and modulations often go after dirt...?

The correct answer is to try both ways. This should have been a poll. Now to rip my board apart again and try every possible order.

I've had it after but I'm off to experiment. I have a new envelope filter I need to work into the equation as well. Let the games begin.

I like after distortion for slow jet or medium speed, I like before with fast or medium speeds for Univibe type sounds.

Sorry, I can't decide for you which one you like better.

Time-based modulation should go after (chorus / flanger). A phaser is not time-based modulation, it is phase-based and works well in either position.

Mine is after dirt, before chorus or delay. YMMV and all.

After unless the amp is also distorted which it usually is if I run an OD pedal because it's seldom at unity gain.
    So, in between.

Anybody put it in the loop of a distorted amp?
