They're both crappy indeed. Depending on situation, one might be more recoverable, or it might not be.

Look it up, there was a school district in Philadelphia that gave out laptops and teachers had access to the cameras. One even remarked how it was like "a little soap opera". 2010 or so.

I have tape on my camera and have done so on all laptops I have owned over the years. I probably do fall into the tin hat crowd, but better safe than sorry.

Some time ago a school administrator got busted hacking into the cameras on the school laptops the kids took home.

Said it was for the security of the laptops so as to make sure where they were supposed to be.

I am sure the teen girls agreed with that

Companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook and others must have some treaties with american government about sharing personal info, thats for sure.
Thats why they constantly have legal problems in EU, China and Russia (so tape on the camera and chewing gum in the microphone doesnt sounds like a bad idea at all) :D

I don't cover mine, but I do pick my nose fairly frequently, and I reckon that probably keeps me safe.

That said, they're already listening through your laptop's mic, and your cell phone and godhelpus Alexa and alla them smart appliances, so, you know, why bother?

And I wish you’d cut that out, tired of seeing it... quick question, what’s that show you’re watching? Sound is muffled, you must have put that yellow polishing cloth over the mic again...

I used to have a lump of paper with a scotch tape on it on the number 7 key on my keyboard, so I would know my middle finger was at the proper place when playing WoW without having to look. Does that count?

Instead of tape, how about about a small plastic cover with a giant illuminated eye peering back into the camera?

    Thanks!
so you are saying a hacker can take control of someone else's camera?
I am so naive ( and too trusting, I guess...)

We have Alexa units at home and I have one in my office.

We also have three Nest thermostats with cameras in our home.

There must be millions of photos of me in my underwear on the Internet.

I feel sorry for the viewers. I’ll try to lose weight.
